As one who was there last night

As one who was there last night

I echo the sentiment of playing the game out...

What bothers me even more was the fact of when they announced that the game would end... 1 out in the bottom of the 11th is when they made the announcement... basically, "NL you must score in this half inning or the game is over".... while the national TV audience knew about this for quite a while...

I do disagree with you folks regarding Bud Selig - and I am not a biased Selig lover.. you could tell that he was beside himself and wanted to keep playing (based on his body language - throwing his hands in the air)... but Brenly and Torre were adamant about not playing..... Torre kissing a** to Garcia and Pinella in Seattle, as he knows he will have to probably face them in the playoffs, and didn't want them upset... even tho Garcia said he could have gone a few more innings....

Baseball has got a lot of things wrong with it - but I guess my view is that Selig is trying to right some of the wrongs - whether he will be successful, I don't know. He should have put his foot down last night and said "Men, we are finishing this".... that was a tragic mistake he made. But I do believe he is our best chance at leveling the playing field to some degree, so that all baseball fans can have hope at the beginning of the season, and not just Yankee fans - who not only have hope, but have the expectation of winning the world series every year....

Football is the only sport that has it right - no "guaranteed" contracts - to get your money, you have to perform - and has a salary cap - if there was any sport in my opinion that deserves guaranteed money, it would be football with the injury risk...

Hoops is a mess, but at least with the cap, teams have a chance (even small market Sacramento gave the Lakers a good run)...the only thing in hoops is that there is no human counterpart to Shaq...

Baseball needs radical change now. I wouldn't mind the owners locking out the players for a year or more to get the point accross - but every year, fans of Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, etc are saying "let's get 'em next year" by May 15th....
It's hard to be a fan anymore...

honolulu, Hi, USA
The game was a tie and let's leave it at that. Who cares who wins in an ALL STAR GAME? The main thing is that fans got to see some of the top players in the majors. Another thing, if personnel is gonna be a problem, why not have the all star game at the end of the season????? JMHO

GM:cool:

I hope that crap was the end of a 'cry babies game' for this year and a long time to come...
STRIKE away guys, just like you did in 1994,and are STILL trying to get the fans back into the seats.
YES, it was an ALL STAR game, which is SUPPOSED to be a show for the FANS ,not the players egos!!!!!!!
I could just see an all star hockey game called because the 3 goalies got tired from all the rubber they were seeing, sure like that would happen. I wonder why the totals on the hockey all star games are always 15- 15 1/2??? because the players go out and put a show on for every 'Puck Lover out there', they play to have fun for ALL. Baseball is so into itself , I hope the ego-maniacs walk, because IF THEY DO, the game is DONE LIKE FREEKIN DINNER.... They won't be able to give free tickets away if Pete Rose stood in the middle of Yankee Stadium, and told the world he actually wagers a' 5 spot 'here or there!!!!!:moon: :moon: :moon:
Sorry game called ,as we ran out of Q.B. 's..... Don't think you'd see them try that number at an N.F.L. All Star game, Man, every guy on the team wants a chance TO THROW THE BALL...
So, As far as most people feel, take your sorry asses and walk .. And take your grade 11 education, and line up at the car wash after someone fills in your job Application, 'cause ya gots ta pay for those "Roids" somehow :thefinger

hope the owners lock players out for over a year. you guys don't get it still and never will most of the trouble of baseball is because of the owners, the strike will be because of the owners if it happens but you all i see is the finger pointing towards the players.

like i said the owners are raking in the cash so don't act like baseball owners are hurting poor souls i have said it many of times mark cubin said he would love for some owner to cut one of their teams off of their little corp toys ,he would buy it in a heart beat, but like he said they are not going to do it because some make great money with them and others have even better write offs for their real business concerns.

they owner could care less about you the fan but keep thinking what you want and blame the players, look at some nba and nfl contacts they match up there with baseball and above, but you want to look at arod and a few guys but not across the board.

trust me the owners are not in it to lose money and are far from it the avg team 2 years ago has doubled their net worth on the market in just 2 years and you say they are losing money bullshit,if they were they would be selling and not fighting to keep their teams and for the release about 1 team not able to meet payroll at the end of the month and another might not make it till the end of the year. you buy into that shit, the owners know to the penny what they have and cost before you even hit spring training infact 2-3 years in advance. funny how this just came out. why hell yes because the owners and the dickhead from the brewers and yes he still runs them not his daughter thats a laugh want to get rid of 2 teams and that has been their plan all along belive what you want, but in this business you know your funds and investments years in advance, this is not the cba or united states basketball league. wake up. these are major major big corps that know exactly what they are doing but hey go ahead blame the players just like most of you do and keep reading that good ole newspaper and listen to the talk shows.

unreal that you buy into it. if they are hurting so bad why do they refuse to sale their teams to the 30 + groups and people standing in line to buy a team? tell me a true fact why and explain it to me why they the owners fight tooth and nail to hold their team. because they are making major freaking cash,if not the would sale quick you act as if these guys are some mom and pop hayseed. everything done is caculated to the T,trust me players are not thinking 44/7 how to screw baseball and make the most money ,they are thinking about playing and doing what they are paid to do play baseball.

Excellent post Fletcher...........agree 100%

You are correct. The owners are not losing money, but just for a moment, let's say they are..........This is (and always has been) my take on ownership of a sports franchise. If there is a bigger luxury than owning a professional sports franchise, then I'm open to suggestions. Basically, my point is: There are approximately 100 or so franchises on the market. Not exactly a common item if ya see what im sayin. How many folks actually come close to even thinking about owning a friggen team?? Now, onto those that are lucky enough to own one. These guys are FILTHY, NASTY rich........most of them couldnt spend all their loot in 6 lifetimes. So, when they say "We are losing money", my answer is: SO WHAT? If you own a pro franchise, thank your lucky stars and quit ****in whining! If you lose money on the venture, oh well. Are these guys in danger of missing a meal? It's a damn luxury, treat it as any other expense, such as a lear jet, a yacht, or a trip to the Bahamas. And hey......how bout doing something positive for your community? Just once I would like to hear one of these guys say, "Yes......im losing money. But it's a priveledge and an honor to be able to provide the people of this city with a professional sports team for the entertainment and enjoyment of you and your families. Enjoy the game, buy a hotdog and a pennant for your son. He will remember it for the rest of his life, trust me.........and in the meantime, don't worry about me losing money on the team. It's my pleasure..........."

Is that too much to ask these guys to contribute to the benefit of humanity? Maybe so........
