What some of the critics are saying:

"Southpaw" gives movie fans what they want: great performances and an emotional core that will resonate even with non-boxing fans.

Intensely emotional, visceral, compelling, and unnerving, Southpaw is a Rocky for a new generation. It's a boxing movie, a character study, and a drama. When the reckless but talented boxer Billy Hope finds everything around him falling apart, fueled by the loss of his wife, he is left to reinvent himself, finding a strength that had previously been masked.

Director Antoine Fuqua throws every boxing/sports film trope he has at us, and after a while it does feel used...but the emotion is thick enough and the boxing scenes so well executed that much of the story's ease can be forgiven.

"Southpaw" is a tremendous accomplishment of mainstream cinematic craft, a near-perfect match of director, material and star.

Was at theater yesterday, saw previews for "Creed".

As in Apollo Creed's son ...yep, they dug Sylvester Stallone out for yet one more cash grab....

might as well..

as long as producers know that the vast audiences will clap for pure shyt..

why not rinse and repeat all these dumb ass productions..

how many GREAT FILMS ...not good films...GREAT FILMS have there been in the last just 10 years??

not many...but Fast and Furious XII is just around the corner.

CASH GRAB...sums it up perfectly

You don't think it deserved best picture? Nothing even close that year plus it won all the other major awards. Actor, actress, director

I thought the word "concede" was an admission of this GREAT FILM as part of what should be a short list from the Oscar winners listed above.

No one on this site is more qualified than me to answer your question of "what are the truly great films on this list".

Look, there are movies and then there are films. The four films above which are truly great films, superced the level of "movie".

Everything on that list is a good movie. Nothing more. Sure, one could make an argument about a few, but honestly they couldn't be considered a cinematic achievement like the others.

Here's what I think: You have very poor taste. You eat and dress like a slob. You have big tits, and you qualify as obese, you drive a minivan and live in a middle America subdivision. You just can't be taken seriously as someone that knows anything about anything. Once you start dressing and living for success I might take you serious.

The End
