I'm an Atlanta Braves fan because Ted Turner put them on TV everyday even though they were shitty back in the 80's. I wanted to be just like Rafael Ramirez even though I looked more like the offspring of Glenn Hubbard or Bob Horner.

Eff the Astros - They kept Mike Scott and let Nolan Ryan go

Eff the Rangers and everyone else in the American league for the matter. Vaggy pitchers should not be able to throw at batters less thee be a batter thy self.

Eff the Spurs, go Michael Jordan

Eff everyone in the NFL except the Houston Oilers

Eff the Tennessee Titans

Go Tiger - eff Mickelson

Eff The University of Texas - Hard - in the ass

I can't stand it when someone likes a sports team OF ANY KIND only because they fucking live near them.

Example: A woman lives in Lexington and loves the Cincinatti Bengals. When you fucking know that if she lived in or near Baltimore, she'd be a Ravens fan.

But these are exactly the people who fill the stadiums like we did as a family, and why there is a TV contract that allows you to watch whoever you want from afar.

Shouldn't you buy something or be a fan of something based on if you think you might like it or have a genuine interest in it instead of "I live near it so I automatically like it."

I do. I live and die with my Penguins. Follow the Steelers, but could not care much less than I do about baseball. As such I am not much of a Pirates fan, even though they are the same distance away as the other two teams.

I guess a 100 million sports fans are wrong and you are the only guy in the country that is correct about this?

Fkn stupid.

It is - I am not a fan - I just wear their stuff 'cause I get it for free.

No I am saying that I will root for Chicago teams no matter what because that is what I grew up with. I grew up watching the Blackhawks and Bears and will continue to follow them. If someone grows up in Toledo and isn't really into sports then moves to Burbank and becomes a Lakers fan because they are there during a couple of Championship runs and become interested in them............how is that a bad thing. You wear a shirt for a team that you don't even like while others root for their team in the privacy of their own home. You push your alleged allegiance in everyone's face every time you don the jersey and the dude drinking beer rooting for the Lakers is fucked up?

You are so wrong about this that it's crazy, or whatever you said earlier.

Hope this helps,
FDC

If/when I move away from Pittsburgh I will still always be a Pens fan, nothing will change that.

The only way this shouldn't apply is if you are from/live in Philadelphia.

It's a stupid reason to like a team.

"I love those Cleveland Browns! Love them! But only because geographically I don't live next to any other team."

Nice.

"I love my kids. Love them! But only because they came out of my wife's vagina and not some other skank's vagina".

Penquin, see above.

It's about "where" - "geographically'.

It is a mindless process of "I live here" and my favorite team is X because I live near them.

THIS makes sense to you? That some cockhole's favorite team is the fucktarddolphins because the fuckhole lives in Miami?

Geographic proximity allows one to view that team playing more often than other teams. It allows them to attend live events with said team. The fan gets vested in following certain players they've been able to watch and thus they become fans.

Growing up in Kentucky, I rooted for the Cincinnati Reds because they were close enough that my family could drive there for a game. Could not follow other teams except through the newspaper scores the next day. Root for the Falcons and Braves now, and have through thick and thin. Still like the Reds. That will not change. Support the local teams now because, again, I can go see them in person and they have "grown" on me.

ding ding ding.

I love barbecue. Is it become geographically I live in North Carolina? No, it's because by living in North Carolina, I was exposed to awesome barbecue, and thus developed a taste for the fine delicacy it is.

Thats just stupid. Its only natural to like the team being the closest proximity for many reasons. Especially if you grew up in that proximity. I am at the other extreme and think its funny that a person is a big fan of team that they have never seen in person or lived near. Your dead horse wrong.

Looks like I am a little late on this view after reading the last page of posts.

You guys are right. I've really learned a lot here. Thanks.

No, no, Joker. It is you that have taught us something. You're your own man . . . a lone wolf. . . .a trailblazer. . . one who will not be enslaved by society's chains that dumb down the masses. Chains like sports fandom, hygiene and sideburns only turn us into sheep.

Stay gold, ponyboy. . . . . stay gold.
