Spreadsheet picks for 10/15 to ?

Man, this room is something else - more peoples in here now AT 5:00 A.M. than there is in the Race Track room ALL YEAR. SHEESH!

I asked folks in my last thread in here if they had a preference for me to just add my Spreadsheet plays to that thread or start a season long thread.

Guess nobody cared .. . . so I'll post this weeks picks here.

Went 3 for 5 last week, better as far as units go cause it picked the Wake Forest M.L. upset. That was the first week I posted plays for college FB regarding my "BESTEST of the 10 top computer/spreadsheet plays for the weekend". I did write a little about how the sheet does and what it's all about in that initial thread I posted last week.

Basically, I look at the SHEET'S top 10 plays and add my thoughts about it's picks (things the computer doesn't know about like the players, injuries, coaching staff, and MOSTLY what I've seen by watching them play). I try to watch as many games/replays as I can. The computer works on the stats and does a VERY complex computation from the stats for each team and it's oponent. I probably made it too complicated, but it's done well over the years.

OK , I know... . the PICKS, the PICKs... ok, here ya go (comments are less than last week cause.. well, who cares?)

OHIO -14 vs. Ball St

UL Lafayette - 8 1/2 vs. No. Texas: very strong play.

KANSAS +35 1/2 vs. OKIE:

The books have been getting slaughtered, week after week, with everybody and their uncles playing the BIG UNS and thems been covering EVERY WEEK too. I see this week folks are ALL sticking with this trend and I know that the "gravy train" ain't gonna last, not asfaras ATS goes. Gotta feel that it's gonna end for at least one of the BIG UNS and I'm sure glad the puter helped me find one, KANSAS.
Here some reasons for this pick (although, FOR ME it's that the SHEET sez Okie doesn't cover) - Kansas scored 24, 34, 28 vs Ga. Tech, Tex Tech, and Oklahoma St. in it's last three games. Them teams are no slouches neither. Yes, Tech creamed them , but Ga. Tech's style of play is much different than Okie's. Also look at the QB stats for Kansas and Okie... . very similar. Kansas has a balanced attack while Jones will be providing more than his share of the Sooner offense. Kansas can run the ball and is superior to Okie with respect to time of possession due to that fact and that's huge with a 35 pt. spot. NO, I ain't saying they're gonna win, but I'll go along with this sheet ATS pick and take the 35+ points in this HOME game after their trip back from Boone Pickens' place.

Missouri -15 1/2 vs Iowa St. - (line may have moved favorably for this one?) I feel that this team is better than their nos. and they have been facing some tough hombres too. Somehow, the SHEET agrees so I'm on this one fo sho.

Temple -21 vs. Buffalo - Obvious reasons. They've obliterated the BUFFs "forever" and that was with a much weaker Temple squads in the past. They've been a money maker for me this season and I think that trend will continue. Buffalo's only hope is only in the NFL (I think that's gonna be short lived too, but the NFL ain't my strong suit.).

You know, I just came back to add something that is a little off the wall and nice to see some visitors were here.

I AIN'T playing this thing... but, I was fooling around with all the options Dimes gives ya for making teasers and progressives (I gotta figure out what that second thing means ) I DON'T play these things cause IMO you can get hooked on them and, play them long enough, you'll have one hell of a time ever winning a straight (-110) side play. If you play pool - it would be like practicing on a regulation pool table for a snooker tornament... FORGET IT! (snooker --> big, big, long table with little balls and very little pockets.)

Still, I can not imagine how this teaser that I finally put together can lose! To me, it LOOKS soo much easier than a single, side play and the odds are almost the same (-120), We'll seel... and it won't cost me a cent to find out.

Thanks for posting. I'm going to look up your old thread. After reading this I'm sorry I missed it. I like the horses too. I live a nine iron from Monmouth park. Normally also spend at least a week in saratoga every summer as well.

Great to see that, Clem. I've been down here in sunny FLA for 10+ years now, but grew up and spent half a lifetime in good ole N.J. Oh yeah, I made the Monmouth trip a number of times and the Jersey shore way more times too. Only one long trip to Saratoga, beautiful place. Didn't care too much for all them baby races though.

Somehow :mj03: I got to studying Philly Park racing and really got to know that track real good, like how it plays, the jocks, trainers, owners, etc. Got good enough with that place that it's the only track I play now. I posted a $92.20 winner in the Race Track Forum a couple of weeks ago.. my only pick for that race. Best thing about that place though is that it pays HUGE on the exotics.

Was out most of the day and just got back to see how I'm doing, SO FAR.

Looks like 2-1.

Every time one of them Mickey Mouse teams (Ohio) beats me I say to myself," Gotta learn to keep away from them Mickey Mouse teams". Well, we'll see what happens with the Lafayette game.

OH, that there teaser .... .. .. . hmm, maybe thems ain't so easy after all cause Cent. Fla/SMU put up 55 pts. today. WHEW ! :0041


(I don't know how the onliners keep offering them MONSTERS. Ya can even get MUCH higher pts than 10 too.)

I feel really good about Kansas covering that thing with the +45 to make that teaser a "shoulda, woulda, coulda". Still, I might throw one in once in a while but I AIN'T getting hooked on them things.

I hadda really do some serious digging in the MJ FOOTSBALL forum to git this thing out from the quicksand to write this "update". No, problem, I understand that.

Then the next time I post something (the next day I usually play a hoss is on Sunday cause I don't care too much for Saturdays cards) I go to write it up .. Oh yeah, it got a ton of views alright, I usually do pretty good with them hosses. But where's all the MJRTJs? (that's Mad Jack's Race Track Jacks). Sad to see it's a dying sport.

While I'm here - I usually make parlays outa my picks and make one solid side play to cover the cost of the parlays. Works out pretty good for me most of the time. Here's a couple of baseballers I used with the parlays this week....

NOT ST. LOUIS to win the World Series (I liked Texas all along but waited too long to bet them to win the BIG ONE. Now, thems are pretty heavily favored and I don't like the odds, accepted the odds on the prop,"St. Louis DOESN'T win Series". Don't remember what I got that at right now. This one is still available.

Texas (tonight's game, sorry it just started). Right now, 1st inning and Det. is winning 1-0. I lke the BIG BATS the Rangers got.

I'm also using a couple of tennis plays, but I don't think anybody around here is interested in them.

Admittedly, the Sooners ARE gonna do some scoring, but I'm liking the way the Jayhawks are looking on offense with them pts. in their back pocket. That, and mastering the clock is what we're/Me are looking for.

I know that I prob. should post this 2nd half play in a separate thread but I wouldn't make this play if I didn't have Kansas with the pts. in a live 4 teamer and also a little heavy, for me that is, in a side play.

NOT gonna take the usual Sonners second half thingy though. Going with the OVER (whatever the line is) for the 2nd half.. The idea is that Okie has to freak out and moider Kansas second half to MAYBE cover. I'll accept the risk to possibly winning BOTH plays. Goble Goble.

Ok the most important part is the main focus of how the TOP 5 POSTED picks from the "SHEET" did.

It went 4-1 this week. BTW the other 5 in the top 10 went 3-1-1. Think I mentioned this already - basically, the way I play these things is (1) make parlays out of the top ten SHEET picks and (2) make a single side play on the team I like best (between me and the sheet's top 10, but it has to be in the "Sheet's top 10)). Last week it was the Wake moneyliner and this week it was tough for me to pick between Missouri and Lafayette. Turned out it didn't make a difference.

This week I actually got 2 parlays pending not 1 and both have "St. Louis does NOT win the World Series". I got them up on my screen now. Just for (my?) record - the first prop I got on the 14th and it's at -320; the second parlay has the same prop (got this one on the 15th) but the odds changed and it's at -180. I gotta get a little insurance, if anybody wants me to post the insurance part.. I will; I don't think anybody's interested in my insurance plays though. BTW, my insurance play (Ok/Kan OVER for the 2nd half) lost, but Kansas covered my main play, for the whole game, and NOT for the reason I thought they would. It was their DEFENSE (yeah, and a little carllessness on Okie's part) and NOT their offense that allowed them to cover. Gotta admit, running on all cylinders - the Sooner team is dynamite.

How to make friends and influence people Dept.

UGH, i gotta make my record clear from last week I had a parlay pending last week and I wrote here that a Houston (NFL) cover would cash it. Thems did NOT cover. Well, here we go..... . . .guess what? IT WAS FOR THE FIRST HALF. AND, I got a feeling that I checked the wrong box and got VERY LUCKY again (did that once before too). I HOPE somebody can confirm this but -> ain't it easy to do that with the way Dimes lists their board? The plays are just listed one after the other and you could be in the "First Half" section without knowing it ESP. if ya in a rush which I was. Oh yeah, I lucked out on that one.

Ok, got that off my chest. (I'm sure hogman, Hamster and others can tellyas that I don't B.S. and tell it like it is. I do post exceptional losers that I've played that I may not have posted too in the Hoss Forum). What can I say/write, things are just coming up roses for me lately. If history repeats itself.. it will stop (but the SHEET'S picks may not).

If I get to post the 5 college plays next week I AM GONNA post the side single (my bestest bet) play too since things are really picking up lately around here for me. I'LL MAKE SURE i DO IT BEFORE THE GAME STARTS TOO.

No NFLers for me this week; I do like the Ravens and the Jets, but I HATE taking the chance of giving back football winnings and I'm just not that confident about NFLers. My next stop is in the Horse forum and Tue$ has alsways been a good day somehow for me. I usually post plays on Sun, Mon. and Tues. Stop in, MJ racing fans, and maybe we can come up with something good. I only play Philadelphia Park though. I'm loaded for bear this week.

I had to do some pretty heavy digging to bring this thing up to the top of the list so I can find it easier when I post this week's picks. Guess there's an easy way to do it with the "Thread Tools" thingy.. but, hell, I'm an old fashioned guy.

OK, I got the top 10 SHEET picks, I gotta narrow it down. I'll be back in about an hour or so for this week's action.

Believe my record for the 2 weeks I posted is 7-3. BTW, I posted plays for 10/8 in a separate thread.

Must be plenty of iffy games this week cause the puter has plenty of picks that are BARELY rated better than their opponent. I could write a lot about how I use it's ratings, but I don't wanna bore yas.

There are some interesting picks listed after it's "official" plays that you may find interesting; see Misc. Stuff below.

Here's this week's 5 plays, out of the SHEET's top 10, that I think are very playable:

Vandy -11 vs. Army: they won't run, run, run, they won't run run ♪ ♪ ♫ )

Tulane -12 1/2 vs. Memphis: This one got rated pretty strong.

Kansas St. - 10 vs. Kansas


USC +10 vs. Notre Dame: I'm taking the pts. However, I should let yas know that the SHEET has this one pegged as an upset (MoneyLiner).

New Mex, State + 21 1/2 vs. Hawaii: I watched Moniz carefully and he can barely throw a spiral. Worser - IMO, he's one of them there "throw and pray" QB's too many times. Yes, N.M. St. is 0-5 vs. Hawaii over the years, but that is when the Warriors (thems really RAINBOW Warriors heh heh heh) had a QB and N.M. St. didn't . Aggies are stronger on the passing offense and that is exactly Hawaii's achillies heel. Both teams faced cream puffs in their last 3 games and the Aggies scored an averate of 32 pts. --- ya think, Hawaii will score 54? I don't, even though they did pull that off... against CAL DAVIS


(I like to make small parlays with the picks plus an NFLer and maybe a tennis pick or two. It's been working very good so far. I wrote that I take ONE of the above as a single side play (it doesn't go in any of the parlays) and put down enough on it to cover the cost of all the parlays (sometimes more than that too). I also wrote that I'd share that side pick with yas this week. Sorry, but I'm still undecided .. :00x32 I can tellyas though that it's gonna be either New Mex. State or Tulane.)





Misc Stuff

Missouri +6 1/2 : REALLY tough for me to go along with this one. BOTH have exceptional passing attacks and, after watching them last week, how could I fade the Cowboys?? Right now, I'm not going along with this play for real. A pick for the computer, not for me, score it anyway you like.


W. Kentucky +3 vs. UL Lafayette: I can't go along with this SHEET (literally, with SHEET spelt a little differently) pick either. W. Kentucky is coming off two ROAD scores, and ATS covers, and they are returning home for this game. BUT, look at their home record (the SHEET does NOT consider that factor). The fact that their QB has double the intercepted passes vs. the no of touchdowns he's thrown is another good reason to pass up this computer pick even though that IS one thing the SHEET takes into consideration .. I believe their first string QB has been injured. Motivation is also on UL's side with their 6-1 record so far vs. W. Kentucky's 2-4. No thanks.

E. Carolina/Navy <65 1/2 (oops, that means UNDER): I've been very lucky picking, on my own, ONE O/U each week (3 for 3 so far). I'm gonna try to keep that going with this game.

Think I'll start a new thread if I post plays next week cause I don't think folks like going through all the previous posts to get to the picks they're looking for every week.

I made the LATE game (New Mex. State plus the pts., of course) my single, kinda large play. I really like the fact that it's a very late game because that way I can figure how much to play it for after all the results are in for the day. Pssst.... that's a good idea, BYW

Asfaras Tulane goes - I see that they're endangering a parlay so I was able to get them for 2ND half (-7) as a small side bet for insurance. Also, I liked that computer pick as well.
