So we had an eventful afternoon. The temp in the house started dropping. In September 2024 we had a heat pump installed, along with a new furnace. The furnace is "backup", supposed to kick on when the outside temp is too cold for the heat pump to handle (around 20° F, I believe). We've been below that plenty in the last couple weeks, so no cause for concern. Well, the furnace had been doing its thing right up until it wasn't. It stopped kicking in, and the heat pump couldn't handle things on its own. We were down to 57° in the house. The company that did the install had techs out today, but by the time they called us back, they said the roads are too dangerous. They'll try to get here tomorrow. We had leveled off at 57° for a while, but I don't know if the heat pump could even maintain that all night. So we start making plans.... ok, better leave the faucets dripping, just in case. We have electric blankets and a space heater. Then all the sudden, around 8:00, we noticed it was getting a little warmer. Hallelujah! After maybe 4-5 hours, the furnace had decided to rejoin the party. Here we are, almost 2 hours later, and everything is still good.
Maybe it's time to move to Hawaii. I could probably grow to appreciate SPAM.
