"we need full time refs". These guys are laughable. Somehow they justify themselves because the replAcements had a few bad calls. Hey refs you aren't brain surgeons.

I think it really WAS a fumble. Big Ben wasn't actually trying to throw a pass; on the replay it's clear he gets hit in the arm and then is in the process of trying to tuck the ball back down when it slips out of his hand.

BUT . . .

That's exactly what the good old Tom Brady "tuck rule" is written to address:

"Ordinarily, if the quarterback drops or loses the football while he is bringing the ball forward in a passing motion, and the ball touches the ground, it is considered an incomplete pass. If the quarterback drops or loses the football at any other time, it is considered a fumble, as if any other player had dropped it.

The tuck rule is an exception to this rule. It applies if the quarterback brings his arm forward in a passing motion, but then changes his mind and tries to keep hold of the football rather than making a pass. In this situation, if the quarterback loses the ball while stopping his passing motion or bringing the ball back to his body, it is still considered a forward pass (and thus an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground).[2] Mike Pereira, the former director of officiating of the NFL, noted that the design of the rule obviates the need to consider the quarterback's intent,[1] although the referee still must judge whether the initial forward movement of the arm was "intentional" on the part of the player or not."

So by their own weird rule (which I've always thought was BS from the day it was called in a snowstorm in Foxboro) it should have been called an incomplete pass.

Haven't seen anything this bad since the Steelers were on the other end of it against Seattle in the SB.

I'm on the NYG and I just knew that play was going to get overturned, because it was clearly the wrong call!

it was clearly loose he was pushing a loose ball

That's what I saw as well.

I don't think he had control when his arm started forward.

I'd like to see it again and sure I will at halftime.

Actually, now that I have seen multiple replays, fumble was the correct call. He momentarily lost possession with his arm back and then never fully regained it as he pushed it forward to the ground. By rule, that's a fumble (and NOT tuck rule, as I originally thought).
