I was listening to the Steven A Smith show today, and he said somebody was reportingRafael Palmeiro. Was caught with a negative test for steroids. At of all those ppl at that Gov't meeting he was the one person i believed. I think every1 did. This would actually give credit to meat head/ ball off the head conseco. This would be the first big dog baseball has finally went after. This may turn out not to be true, but i thought it was a very interesting story if he does get reported.

I don't even think this guy was a HOF. He played in a juiced ball era, and was never clearly a top five mvp type player. I will not deny his stats, but i think he simply amassed stats (HR) by playing so long in small parks, good lineups and terrible league wide pitching.

do u guys think his HOF numbers will be hurt by this shocker if he is found guilty. This might be the first person to have numbers and never get to go to the hall.(excluding rose)

Palmeiro's statement: "Good morning, Mr. Chairman and members of the committee. My name is Rafael Palmeiro and I am a professional baseball player. I'll be brief in my remarks today. Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids. Period. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never. The reference to me in Mr. Canseco's book is absolutely false. I am against the use of steroids. I don't think athletes should use steroids and I don't think our kids should use them. That point of view is one, unfortunately, that is not shared by our former colleague, Jose Canseco. Mr. Canseco is an unashamed advocate for increased steroid use by all athletes."

Palmeiro, 40, signed a one-year contract with the Orioles for 2004 that paid him $4.15 million. The Orioles exercised an option for 2005 at $3 million.

Unless reversed, the suspension will cost Palmeiro $165,746.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Rafael Palmeiro was suspended Monday for violating Major League Baseball's steroids policy, nearly five months after telling Congress that ``I have never used steroids. Period.''

Palmeiro two weeks ago collected his 3,000th hit, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Eddie Murray as the only players with 3,000 hits and 500 homers.

Palmeiro, 40, is the seventh and highest-profile player to test positive under the major league policy adopted earlier this year.

Can Palmero get in trouble for lying to Congress? Seems like there could be major reprocussions to this...

the sheer stupidity of palmeiro is mind boggling...he already has hof stats.....a good guy image....nobody bought canseco`s story on him....

and i think canseco,although a rat,wasn`t lying....i never thought he made all that shit up....

just call it a day,raffy...don`t use anymore...finish your career and fool everybody....your 40 years old...

if this is true...and it looks to be....they should suspend him for 20 more games for being a moron...

sorry u guys knew what i meant. For a guy to so boldly say he did not do it in front of congress, u would figure what he watched that went into his body. I am sure he took something that was on teh banned list. There is lots of crap out there, that have small traces of "steroids" in them and ppl think it is clean.

Blackman, yes, he could get into alot of trouble lying to congress. But technically, he said he never took them and i guess that could be true. He could just say he just started taking them. WHich is all a dumb thing to say, but it would legally cover him.

I bet Canseco's gettin' a hard on right now. It took a while but looks like he's got one of them. Plus McGwire didn't help his cause if memory serves me correctly.
