Alice Howland (Julianne Moore), happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a devastating diagnosis, Alice and her family find their bonds tested.

About Alzheimers. I even had my grandmother living with me for awhile when she had it back in the 90's and remember her mother having it back in the 70's. I really wished I didn't watch the movie, that's some scary shit right there. My father got very forgetful in his last years but nothing like that. Who knows, maybe he would have gotten just as bad had he lived long enough. Anyway, I sure as hell hope I don't get it. Damn, I am forgetful more so than I was years ago, sometimes really bad too. Jesus!

Alzheimer's disease is part of the reason I became a murse, my grandfather moved in with us when I was little, my grandmother couldn't handle him anymore and I would help take care of him. man I could go on about some wild stories and some crazy funny stories as well. also worked in Alzheimer's unit, miss it even though it's such a sad disease. when you get so far gone it's like you are wandering dead.

The six pillars of a brain-healthy lifestyle are:

  1. Regular exercise
  2. Healthy diet
  3. Mental stimulation
  4. Quality sleep
  5. Stress management
  6. An active social life
The more you strengthen each of the six pillars in your daily life, the healthier and hardier your brain will be. When you lead a brain-healthy lifestyle, your brain will stay working stronger?lon

Boyhood is the favorite for Best Picture. I guess I'll watch that soon.

my mother had issues with memory and doing things like taking her meds and oaying bills....heartbreaking stuff....

from what I`ve read, gingko bilobsa helps keep small blood vessels open and has proven helpful as a bit of a deterrent....do you take a baby aspirin daily, jack?

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
I like depressing movies! "Sadness Breeds Gratitude", as they say....

My mom taking those two Alz drugs Alice was on in movie. Mom's memory worse, but still not horrible (she balances check book still, age 83), the demetia is progessing slowly.

Also a problem is Mom's reasoning - definitely not what it used to be - and she also does not/refuses to recognize that. So it's a two-headed problem: in her diminishing state she reasons wrong conclusions, and her age-related deficiency robs her of the metacognitive ability to realize it.

Dad is 89 (a WWII vet) still drives occasionally, physically slowed up quite a bit, but not yet showing too much memory or mind problems.

ppl r living to long, mind is dieing b4 body

yes, a friend thought that about her father. The fellow died recently age 90, physically and mentally a mere shadow of his self. The operations, stents, pacemaker, etc kept him going for years and she felt would have been more humane for him to die age 80 - which he would have naturally done just 20 years ago, before some of his life prolonging medical procedures were widely available.
