How can anything be as much of a run as what has just happened the last couple months?

You know me. I like to instill as much fear about things as I possibly can! :)

Bottom line is that actively managing your portfolio, with proper money management, can be done effectively with a little bit of learning.

Dawg, I've always thought you should write a covered call on any stock you're going to be holding for a while. The amount it can increase your ROI is definitely significant.

I've switched totally over to forex but before that I used a small amount of my money for spreads. I always enjoyed them.

Yes or No will mrkt have correction. Yes. Bad or Good. Good for the mrkt always has in the past. I would guess around 9000/9100 it pulls back to around 7900/8000. Then the march to complete recovery will start. Those sitting on side line that missed the first part of this will join in next time. It will take 20 to 30 months to get back close to highs. Should be a nice time to make some doe. But it alll starts after one more correction.

no telling what will happen...

I can't believe its still going up given the horrible credit crisis and also the amount of debt we are in. Its as if the market is looking for any good news then exaggerates it with a crazy bullish run. 2000 points since March you would have to think its due a decent pullback, but given the worst recession since '32, maybe its just the correction. Everytime i think it will break support, it continue its run up to breaking resistance. Until the market realizes it is creating something out of nothing, it will rise. 200 day average at about 9000 would be the max I would think, but with market sentiment as high as it is, who really knows. I would not be surprised seeing it trade between 9000 and 8300
(30d avg) until unemployment either increases or decreases dramatically. It will definitely take something strong to push it through 9000.

For the most part, I agree. But if implied volatility is ridiculously low then you are not getting a fair enough offer to put your holdings that you feel positive about in question.

GE, historically, is a tried and true candidate for writing covered calls. "Historically", it rises and lowers slowly so writing monthly (or even quarterly) covered calls on it is simply smart investing.

Forex is really peaking my interest, but I think I am going to hold off until I can carve out some brain space to learn a little more. I have two friends who own a Forex education company that I can hook up with.

I would love to hear your contributions in our thread here. You probably wouldn't get many responses, but I guarantee people would be reading with interest.
