How I pick the hossies...
How I pick the hossies...
Jimbo and company:
How do you guys pick 'em?
I remember years back when I was working in the supermarket business one of our vendors was known as the "horse guy." Not because he looked like one, but he knew 'em inside and out. I was amazed. He brought up the point, and had me name the starting QBs for the entire NFL, which I had little trouble doing. His point to me was that he knew horses because that's what he liked to follow. Made sense. I felt like he did a ton of over analysis when it came to it, but the guy made money. Probably same can be said for studying 3-4 defense vs how Palko is going to react to a nickel package on monday night football.
Back to my story/post.
Here's what I like to look at.
1. Post Position. How did they fair in that position prior.
2. Trainer. Love Mott...seems like a lot of those big name guys , Lukas, Baffert, Zito, Pletcher, have relative success, but those smug aholes seem to be more concerned about themselves than making money...
3. Jockey...very important to me...I'd rather have Tom Brady leading a shitty offense than Mark Sanchez leading a great team...
4. Pedigree....like looking at whos seed these hossies came from...less important...
5. Beyer #. This to me is like the SaberMetrics of baseball..some people swear by the numbers, some people dismiss them completely..well...in sabermetrics and just raw feel for a player in baseball...the truth is somewhere in the middle. does a horse that has a high beyer make a fit for a statue outside churchill downs? not necessarily, but it is a nice indicator, and i like to factor it in.
How about yous?
