So , do you leave a front porch light on overnight? I never have, but spacing out last night looking out the window, I noticed over half of those on my block do.

someone tell me the proto call here.

both front entrances, the light is on all night. Back yard has a motion sensor.

Take a walk around the block tonight, and look around at the houses. Ones with the light on in front are far less tempting to rob. The people across the street from me never have theirs on, and it's pitch black.

I saw on Criminal Minds one time that a thief is far less likely to target a house with the lights on than one that is dark. It doesn't cost much at all, so that's what we do (and we also have guns :0008 ).

I don't. I installed the motion sensor so that the light turns on when anyone comes close to the house.

I've been meaning to do that for 2 years and never had got it done.

Would serve double puprose for me- as wife gets home at about midnight from work and won't have to get out of car in dark--however do have street light right in front of house so not very dark. Flip side my cats would be setting it off all night long.:)

Interesting topic.

Back in '75, the general rule was if you're home, the front lights are off. It's 2010. Everyone should have some sort of automated lighting system.

I leave my front porch lights on all night, and my back porch light and detached garage lights are on motion sensor.
