St. Lucia is probably a little far for a 5 day trip.

Wife and I went to Riviera Maya and stayed at the El Dorado Royale.

Travel time was minimal (fly to cancun and 30-45 minute shuttle to resort)
Cost was much less than the 3 Caribbean trips we have taken
Food was better -- still have not figured this one out
Overall experience was fantastic

I think we spent $2,000 for the two of us with flights for 5 days/4 nights all-inclusive.

Deerfield Beach Florida

Small town you can fidnd accomadations right on the beach. Real close to Ft Lauderdale, Miami, and a 5 hour drive to the Keys...Went there last November (2006) and really enjoyed it.

Clearwater is another great place to relax. Stay at the Palm Pavillion right on the beach. Nice Sunsets and dolphins right out yor window.
Southwest is having a special on flights to Florida depending on where you leave from.

Place looks very nice. If I can find something like that for 2K that would definately have to be the leader in the clubhouse.

On another note, weren't you just in New Orleans?

How is that place doing...Relaxing there may not be easy, but the drinkin & gamblin would come easy enough. I would like to go back to NO ,but wifey thinks its still a hell hole & is fearful of the place.

3, a friend of mine uses a site called tntvacations for last min. vacation packages. Site has new packages listed often.

He's done this for the last 5-6 yrs and usually get flights/room/meals all included. He hasn't been disappointed yet and really doesn't care where he goes as long as its warm.............

New Orleans is still hurting overall as a city, but you can certainly visit without problems now.

I recommend the Garden District, but it is a little pricey. Get a roast beef po boy at Napolean's House!!

I will vouch for the Riviera Maya. One of my favorite vacations was spent at a different resort (Bahia Principe). I think we paid $2600 total for the two of us including flight.

Above the Clouds....
We go to the Riviera Maya every year. This year we are booked at the Riu Palace in Playacar. All-inclusive and you can go to their 3 adjoing properties for food and drink. About 30 mins south of cancun and reasonably priced compared to some other island destinations!

Just chatted with an agent on their site. They have a new resort as well. He said it is at the same level as the Royale with the same number of amenities.

4 nights with air (from Nashville) in June (anniversary month) is looking like $2500 for the two of us.

I went to the suggested www.tntvacations.com to check around for us as well because my wife is pushing for a 5 year anniversary trip. They have some killer deals on there that include air!

Most were under $2K for the two of us for 4 nights to this area. Many of the places were rated 5.5 & 6 stars.

We'll definitely be back in this area again this year it looks like.

Royale Rates

Seaside Rates

I'm sure you can negotiate down from here.

I agree with Dawgball - this is a great place. Another in the area that is equivalent is the Aventura Spa Palace (they're probably 15 minutes from each other - one is North of Playa Del Carmen, the other is south...both are in the "Riviera Maya"). Anyway, check with your travel agent but also have them check out the deals using Northwest Airlines WorldVacations (not my favorite airline but they have some kind of deal with the Riviera Maya resorts where you can get First Class airfare for a negligible amount more). It is always nice to take trips like this with the wife in style. My reward for taking my wife First Class was a son born 9 months later...LOL - true story!
