It's easy, greg. I post the link to the OFFICIAL standings from the OFFICIAL WEBSITE of the 2012 London Olympics, which ranks teams by the quality of their hardware.

Kickserv, on the other hand, links to sites that give equal weight to a bronze medal and a gold medal. That way, a team that gets a lot of bronze and only one gold medal can say they are as good as a team that actually stands on the top of the podium.

Again, the official standings have Canada in 32nd place. Canada is good at some things, but boy do they suck at sports.

Jack I guess when NBC shows the Medal count they are wrong then huh.

I guess when CTV shows the Medal count they are wrong then huh.

I guess when BBC shows the medal count they are wrong then huh.

I guess when Eurosport shows the medal count they are wrong then huh.

If a country gets one gold medal and another country gets 85 silvers they don't finish ahead of em. Go look back through the last 10 Olympics, you'll see what I mean.

Canada is in 12th place in the Medal count....for fuck sake.

Of course, they may suck in the Olympics due to my Maple Syrup Theory of Canadian failure. This theory states that Canadian athletes are subconsciously driven to go for third place due to the resemblance between the bronze medals and maple syrup. This theory also takes into account that Canadians who actually manage to win a gold or silver soon slop maple syrup over it anyway, so all the Canadian medals look bronze by the time they get back to Canada.

The average Canadian is thus unaware that there are any other Olympic medals other than bronze. This may explain why they think they are in 12th place when 31 other countries have more gold medals than they do.

Here we see a prime example of a Canadian swimmer tasting his bronze medal in the mistaken assumption that it is maple syrup flavored.

Jedi..........

As stated earlier Maple Syrup on a medal would be silly. It would get sticky and be tough to clean off. Not a smart idea.

Rankings are determined by the team with the most GOLD MEDALS.

If teams are tied with the same amount of GOLD MEDALS they use SILVER MEDALS as a tiebreaker.

If teams are tied with the same amount of GOLD and SILVER MEDALS, they use the BRONZE as the tiebreaker.

Canada is OFFICIALLY in 32nd place for the 2012 Olympic Games.

There are no IF, ANDS or BUTS about the OFFICIAL RANKINGS.

Jack.........nope, sorry you are wrong.

And by the way their are not any OFFICIAL RANKINGS......

For now on I will say MEDAL COUNT CANADA IS IN 12th PLACE

Read it and weep........there are no OFFICIAL RANKINGS.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_medal_table#Ranking_systems

"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not recognise global ranking per country; the medal tables are displayed for information only. Furthermore, the results that we publish are official and are taken from the "Official Report" - a document published for each Olympic Games by the Organising Committee. However, for the first Olympic Games (until Antwerp in 1920), it is difficult to give the exact number of medals awarded to some countries, due to the fact that teams were composed of athletes from different countries. The medal tables by country are based on the number of medals won, with gold medals taking priority over silver and bronze. A team victory counts as one medal.?

You realize that if USA had one gold medal total and China had only 90 silvers, USA would finish ahead of China.

That is why there are no officialCanada sits 12th in the MEDAL COUNT

Now if you think one country has one gold medal, zero silver and zero bronze finishes ahead of another country with zero golds 50 silver medals and 50 bronze then so be it, but don't tell me there are official rankings...THERE ARE NO OFFICIAL RANKINGS.

I have never ever said anything about any ranking being official. And everyone except Jedi would acknowledge that if one country has 100 total medals with zero gold and another has 1 gold and zero silver or bronze they would not finish ahead of em. That just seems silly.

Now if the IOC ever releases "Official Rankings" then that would solve anything.

GOLD is what counts. The only reason they have SILVER and BRONZE is for tiebreakers.

36th place is correct at the moment.

Dream on, dude. Read the article posted by IE below you post.

The Canadian team placed 36th in the standings used by the IOC ? and 202 of the 204 countries participating in the XXX Olympiad ? winning just one gold medal, five silver and 12 bronze. Canada?s previous worst results were 27th at Montreal in 1976 and Munich in 1972. At Beijing four years ago, Canada ranked 19th.

Canadian media went from being happy to be there to "winning it all". Good to see the sentiment change. The gov't has started giving money to athletes, and most of the country wants to win now. It wasn't like that even 10 years ago. I like it:00hour
