"I get the luxury of playing with somebody who's almost my dad's age," Kris Jenkins said, smiling. "I was watching [Favre] when I started growing my adult teeth. When my mom starting to help me walk, he was on the field playing.'' Then Jenkins turned serious. Sort of.

"I told y'all," he said. "Y'all kept looking at me like I didn't know what I was saying. But Brett's Brett. You got to let him do it. You've got to take everything that comes with Brett. ? Whatever he does, man, it's full. It's full tilt. I know we mess with him because he's old. And because he's old. And because he's a little bit older than that. But he's a great guy.''

Favre wouldn't say how far the Jets could go this season. He knows they're a work in progress. He knows he's a work in progress. But a year ago at this time, the Jets were 2-9 and counting the nanoseconds to the offseason. Now they're one, maybe two games away from likely clinching a playoff spot.

And Ted Thompson and the Packers are trying to figure out where they will be vacationing in early January.

We can only hope that Ted is using that time to update his resume..... If the board running the Pack has any sense (and I'm not saying they do), then he will get his walking papers.

Doubtful any NFL team would hire him - trading Favre is the defining moment of his career. Hopefully Burger King will be hiring.... :mj07:

maybe if the packers blitz on 3rd and 15, on the first possession of the 3q - this game is different...... who knows, but the packer D is crap and rodgers can't play D.

favre, mr. precious, threw the game losing int in lambeau against the giants last year, not rodgers.....

is favre great ? of course, but is not as good as he is made out to be.

Favre was (and still is) a WINNER. He finds a way to win.

He found every way he could to get off the ice cold field last January against New York.

I don't see Brett putting up 60+ on these guys tonight......sorry.

Folks have to look past Favre/Rodgers to understand Thompson's ineptitude - though I certainly think it is exhibit A. He has done nothing the last two years to build on this team despite having the most cap room in the league. Last season he could have had Randy Moss for a third round pick - said "no thanks."

You just dont do what he did when you were 1 play from the Super Bowl. The NFL isnt long term planning operation..the Packers window is gone...and in the next year or two so will be alot of the talent to free agency.

So. Cal
Wow.

If numbers are king (and usually they are), then this statement blows me away.

We all know this "how many Super Bowls have you won" thing is stupid - it is so dependant on the guys around you when you play.

So, who's better? Show me somebody that has to play their home games in cold weather. It is easy to pass for big numbers in a dome (Peyton Manning).

Dan Marino? Oh yea, he hasn't won a Super Bowl. (not that it matters). He is 2nd in TD passes. In fact, he holds no career QB records that I know of.

Favre may not be the best ever (there have been a lot of good QB's) - but he is certainly in the top 10.

His consecutive game streak alone, in my mind, gets him there. That streak, in the NFL, puts even Ripken's to shame. And I LIKE Cal Ripken, mind you.

phil simms ? never threw all the picks favre has.

terry bradshaw, mr. int, but has 4 SB.

plunkett, has 2 SB.

jim kelly, 4 time SB participant ?

kurt warner has won a sb.

troy aikman won 3 and could have won more if jj doesn't retire. seriously, aikman should have won the most ever....

favre has been great at times and is undeniably the most durable sob ever, but he is not that great in the ultimate category..

neither was ripken, i would take 20 SS over rip.

He wouldn't have had to. See, Rodgers did have a LOT to do with the Packers D tonight. Too many poor offensive series in the 2nd half. Having to punt after not moving the ball. Oh yes - 3 picks thrown by Rodgers.

The "nut" the Packers should have had to hit to win the game should have been 35... but the Packers offense's poor play led to many, many NO points.

Just think - we threw away a 13-3 team. Nobody rebuilds a 13-3 team, that was one step away from the Super Bowl. They ADD to it - not take away the best player from the team and give his job to a rookie basically.

You just sound like the typical fan who calls the local radioheads in the AM around here.

After a big win, the Pack is the greatest thing around, Ted is a genius, Coach is "the man", and who is Brett????

When they lose, fire everyone, Ted is a complete joke, McCarthy doesn't have a spine, the team has no direction, etc.

Favre is gone! You can take the jersey off.

Maybe "Ted" saw what you can't seem to see? The fucking guy QUIT last year!!!

I really don't want a guy who only wants to play when it's 60 degrees or better out, when the teams plays outside in WISCONSIN!

When the guy tells you that he doesn't have it in him anymore, WHAT DO YOU DO??????

Me??? I move on.

So did the Packers.

(So should you.)

Thompson

Let's see before Thompson they were 4-12. He turned around a team who had no talent what so ever. First of all it wasn't Ted Thompson who was crying and said he had retired. They gave him numerous chances to come back last year he waited until late June. By then they had used two draft picks on Quarterbacks. The changing of the guard had started. If I remember right Favre was on that team that finished 4-12. Furthermore if you look at last years schedule and check the statistics he had versus good defenses you will have seen he didn't do as well as you thought. Last year the Packers played one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. This year the Jets have played the easiest schedule. Favre was a great QB under Holmgren but was less than stellar with Rhodes and Sherman. In his last three championship games he threw 6 interceptions versus the Rams, threw a costly interception at the end versus the Eagles and in his last championship game his last pass he threw against the Giants was an interception. With all the drama the Packers thought it was time to move on. Favre should be grateful that they trade him to a team that has an excellent offensive and defensive lines. Although the Jets were 4-12 last year the year before didn't they win 11 games. The Jets spent 150 million this past off season. Time for people to move on last night I don't care who the quarterback was they would have lost. The Saints exposed the Packers last night with the matchups with the tight ends and backs versus the slow Green Bay linebackers and poor play at safety. There was no pass rush what so ever. The problem with the Packers is not the quarterback. They overachieved last year with an easy schedule. One of the problems they had is that they had to trade one of their defensive lineman to draft a quarterback because Brett retired. Mags if your so unhappy in Green Bay why don't you just move to New York.

I disagree strongly here. Part of being good in management positions is knowing that how you approach and understand every player is different - you don't treat every employee the same - they are driven by different motivations and makeups.

The key is to get the most out out an employee (player) - which means understanding them and managing them appropriately.

Most Packer fans knew in April/May that Favre wanted to come back. Why not bring him back and let him compete for the job? Why hand the job to a rookie that had never started an NFL game (along with 2 backups that never took a snap in an NFL game before).

As far as "does Favre still have it" - well, the Packers were 13-3 last year with him at the helm (5-6 now).. .the Jets were 4-12 last year and are now 8-3 with Favre at the helm.

Yea, I kinda think he does. Does Ted still have it? Yea, not so much.

Did he quit last year? We'll if getting beat by the Giants in the playoffs is quitting, then Romo and Brady are quitters too. The Giants were the best team last year - and the Packers took them to overtime. How is that quitting?

I'm sure Romo and Brady will be happy to know that they are quitters - since they got beat by NYG also.

Didn't Rodgers quit last night (in perfect conditions)? Didn't he hand the game to the Saints (not talking the Giants here - the worst pass defense in football in NO)? Review the 2nd half from last night - 3 picks and didn't move the ball.

That's why the Pack got killed. Also Rodgers poor performances against Minn and Tennessee cost the Packers wins - ones that Favre would have won.

Didn't Brett just destroy Tennesee this weekend? How did Aaron do against them?

You can't say NYJ have more talent than GB - not based on last year and the roster they have.

Rodgers is a nice guy, and has handled this whole fiasco with class - kudos to him. But he'll never be able to sniff Brett's jock.

One caveat here - I would have been happy with the Rodgers choice if we were coming off a 4-12 year and were obviously rebuilding.

But the Pack was 13-3 - one of the leading contendors coming into the year for the Super Bowl! You don't put in a rookie QB and have him replace a 3 time MVP winner, who almost won his 4th the season before.

THAT'S MY BIGGEST ISSUE. Remember the 80's? 4-12, 5-11 every year. That is where we are headed now. We knew it would come eventually, but not after a 13-3 year. And we certainly thought it would come when Brett really didn't want to play anymore.

Not because Ted decided to throw in the towel with his 13-3 team and toss Brett.

Ted's ego is writing checks that his ass can't cash. Not to mention he is a real stupid looking fuker - reminds me of the bald eagle bird from the Muppets....Just a stupid look on his face 24/7 - or is that just him normally?

Thank God they show the Jets here every weekend - we can at least see how a QB is supposed to play.

what the hell is this all about??? :nono:

In case someone was going to bash Ripken saying "a consecutive game streak means nothing"...

Truth is, a MVP QB sitting on the bench due to injury has NO value.

Which is why I've never been high on Montana - missed too many games (and hurt his team by doing so) to be considered a top QB.

Yea, NY, that's the ticket :mj07:

I just want to see accountability for Thompson's mess he created. Hopefully he'll get it.

Let's see:

1. Push out a 3 time MVP, who is still playing at the highest level,
2. Go into the season with 3 rookie QB's, none who ever started an NFL game, and 2 of which never took an NFL snap.
3. Waive your punter from the previous year (who wasnt' great but decent) 3 days before the season starts to pick up a terrible punter in Scott Frost.

Yea, those are all great moves. Not to mention the outstanding draft choice of Justin Harrell in the middle of the 1st round.

In most careers, you perfom that poorly, you get canned. In the NFL, it takes forever to weed out the poor performers in management roles.

Ask Matt Millen.

Arron Rodgers first season starting in the NFL.
Not bad imo.Hes my starter on my fantasy team, that is 8-4.

That 1st series that NO had in second half took up half the quarter, and in all intent and purposes ,game over.Yeah he forced some balls that were picked off,but knowing in the back of your mind that your opponent cant be stopped,id say he had no choice.

Look at his numbers ,for a first time starter. There good.Hes gonna make mistakes gettn seasoned.
They have made a long term commitment to him,and hes gonna be a pro-bowler in time.

Patience is a virtue, and to compare him to Farve is just silly.

Mags I disagree with alot in your write-up.
For starters didnt they bring Tenn. to OT?
In the OT didnt Tenn. march right down on the GB D and game over!!

To say Rodgers quit last nite is just wrong .

There D is just not that good(and banged up).
That opening drive of the second half was just pathetic.NO could not be stopped last nitethats the reason they lost cut and dry.

Also the game vs Minny in Minny ,as bad has Rodgers played, didnt a last minute FG by GB come up short.

The Farve thing is so stupid.Yeah they could of brought him back this year. For what .Hes career lets face is winding down. They wouldnt of won the SB regardless if he was still playing, and the way there D is playing it would not matter.

Farve and the NYJ are on a roll now,but the season is not over.In fact Farves most "Pressure " games are in front of him and guarentee that he throws the big interception at the worst part of the game.Guarenteed:SIB

Rusty:

Don't disagree with any of the above. This isn't a Rodgers bashing.

It is more of a timing thing. You have a 13-3 team, returning almost all it's players, this is NOT the time to break in a rookie QB.

There was nothing wrong with keeping both of them this year, and playing Favre.
