I have been a single mother of three children for 15+ years, for the first time in our lives I feel I am failing them. I have a career which I teeter on giving up. Why, you ask? I am losing my home and cannot truly afford to move. The cost of living exceeds my income, which is "too much" for any type of assistance. My ex-husband is 60,000+ in arrears. Each time we appear in court he pays ,maybe, $25.00 then the prosecutor gives him a lecture on what happens if he does not continue to pay per court orders. This has gone on for years! He has never so much as purchased a pair of shoes for his children.
Now here we are, a mother who works full time, raises her children on her own, has never been on government assistance, is losing her family's home. Back to the point of giving up my career. If in fact I do give it up, my children will have a roof over their heads and I will not have to worry about putting food on the table, rather I can collect food stamps and live in government assisted housing. How is this madness justified? I know everyone struggles, but how is it that hard working, college educated people, struggle to feed their children and drug addicted moms get their bills paid for.
For the first time in my children's lives there will be no Christmas. I am thankful that I raised children that are givers not takers, as this will make it easier Christmas day.
I need to know if there are services for people like me that could help just with the cost of moving ( security deposit), anything would help. I do have to keep the house I live in with heat, water, etc..... while attempting to save to move. I feel stuck. I have no family to turn to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
