It's been kinda quiet in here lately....so I figured I'd take a bunch of us Generation X'ers back through memory lane.

To think I started out rideing a horse to school. Then a big step. A 3 speed schwin bike. Math was done in our heads and by hand. No computer you say. How about no calculators. No FM radio just AM. That you could only here about 25 miles. TV with large screens and PIP. You are kidding. How about biggest screen was 21 inch. First car 55 Chevy. Dam wish I still had it. Cost me used around 900 bucks. Now worth about 40.000. Ya your right you guys in the 80's had it made. Us poor folks from 50's and early 60's. We had it made to. We didn't have to walk that 20 miles to school up hill both ways. :D :D

Ah, growing up in the 70s and the 80s.....what a fun time we had.......I remember that soon after we got cable for the first time, someone told me that you could get channel 100(soon after it was renamed....goes by HBO today) if you took the back of the box off and unhooked a wire that was connected to the dial. Sure enough, it worked......:D

One benefit to growing up during that time...........

Our weed was much cheaper!! nickle bags, dime bags, half oz, lids........40 bucks an oz......and what is it today? Haven't a clue, but I'm guessing 40 bucks today might get you a 1/8 of an oz.......

the 80's were GREAT compared to the 60's. was born in 55. now WE had it bad. BUT......we NEVER stayed in the house. was always outside playing ball so it wasn't too bad.

our only video game was PONG  we could play hockey, tennis and soccer, ALL ON THE SAME SCREEN AND FORMAT.

oh yeah......we had the football game where you set your men up and turn on the vibrating board for the action. what a piece of shit that thing was. lmao

lol- that vibrating football game was the worst. I would sit there for hours upon hours, day after day, trying to get the players to go in the direction that the were supposed to, but most of the time all you got was 22 little players going around in circles. So then you would have to try to straighten out the little plastic prongs of all 22 guys. But about 5% of the time, the action actually resembled a real play and that would make it all worthwhile. Plus, the little players were painted in real team colors, so that was one cool thing.

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
Jack,
Now your talkin! I remember when my brothers' player started "running" (vibrating) the wrong way one Christmas, during our championship game (pre Super Bowl) and he got so pissed he took that player and gave him the HOT STOVE treatment! LMAO! Said he had to teach him "A Lesson"

The other classic game of that time was the push-pull hockey games with sticks you twisted to shoot the puck. Those games and tournaments we had usually ended up being one goal games with the game getting flipped over by the contestants "rough play"! Just loved that game.

Thanks for reviving some old memories:D

That hockey game was great, Franky. We used to set it up in the kitchen and use the microwave timer as the 'clock' and many of our games ended up the same as yours. With an overturned game.

and don't forget pogo sticks, the hula-hoop and yo-yos (no, ours didn't light up and play tunes either) :D

always wore the Jack Percell tennis shoes too. usually the denim blue or in black. whatever happened to those anyway?

remember the 'fake' jack persells? couldn't get THOSE or the kids in school would make fun of you or pull the little strip off that was glued to the toe :D

lol @ Jack Persells

I had to tell my mom to quit buying 'Knights of the Roundtable' shirts, because the logo was close enough to 'Polo' to make the other kids think that you were trying to put one over on them.

I hate to think of how many hours I spent playing Strat-O-Matic Baseball. Also had those small cars that raced around a track. You could buy all kinds of different cars. Even had to oil the gears.

the cheapest i paid for an oz. was $15 in the late 60's.

jack,

i don't know but i loved the 60's. the 60's brought us out of the stale 50's(where nothing was happening). a revolution happened in the 60's where people was questioning the gov't. & the music drastically changed our lives.we played stickball, punchball, johnny on the pony, stoop ball all in the street right into the night . kids don't play these games any more, they don't know what they are missing.

i don't know if it is the same game that you are talking about, but we played a game called "electric football" where the playing board vibrated.a few of the kids in my neighborhood bought this game also & we used to play at different houses, sort of traveling to different stadiums. it was great, but like kosar said some of these players didn't go in the right direction.

i remember the hula hoop. you used to throw it out in front of you & try to make it roll back to you. i wonder if the hoop is sold any more. don't know if anybody remembers the slinky. it used to slink down the stairs. not much else(lol).

stevie,

i didn't have strat-o-matic, think it was after my time. but we had a game called all-star baseball.this game consisted of two spinners, one for the visitor, & one for the home team. the players consisted of present day players(mays, mantle, aaron) & players of yester-year players(ruth, gehrig, ott, cobb). it was a pretty cool game for it's time.

those were the days!!
