we've already established that the military does more than just "kill people". In fact, you yourself said that of course they do more than kill people 24/7.

So a construction worked gets killed in an accident while building a new federal building, let's say - a post office. Is he an idiot for working for the government?

In fact, a lot of them are research driven facilities and focus on humanitarian efforts.

you seem to be trying to lump the entire purposes of military bases into the same situation as the current conflicts going on in Afghanistan and Iraq - which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

My position is - the US needs to maintain overseas bases in order to protect our interests and alliances with other countries.

I believe that people around the globe would have a more positive portrait of America if we weren't occupying every inch of the planet. Just how hard would it be to recruit young Muslims to kill themselves in suicide missions against us if we weren't in the Middle East?

well, since the majority of those suicide bombers are targetting other native races and ethnic groups there, that are not the United States, I'd say it would make things a bit easier and they would continue at the same, or increased rate.

You have to understand his mindset...

He argues and forms his beliefs from his feelings, not through history or facts.

You can't refute an emotionally based position with a logical argument. Nobody's gonna change his mind, you're just wasting your time and aggravating yourself unnecessarily.

Sorry I just don't see it. His vision of what would happen is not fact based. Not that I really care anyway.

My main point is that my life is worth more than 30K a year. I wouldn't take a 200-1 shot each year to die for 30K. That is insane and that is what young kids do. Not even taking into account what they have to do for that 30K.

We all don't die in our late-teens and twenties. When you sign up your odds of dying during that time is simply not worth it. You are simply being used.

My argument has not changed. Debating with you is like arguing with a kid. If you are born in an area with a high mortality rate that is out of your control, unlike you signing up with a recruiter who signs up poor kids to die. That is within your control.
