They went pay for online viewing last year, maybe the year before. You can view about 5 pages and then they cut you off. Cheap assholes.

But this one really gets me. I tried right clicking on a pic so I could post it and a popup gave me directions to where I could purchase the pic. WTF?

I can't imagine they get many subscribers especially compared to the viewers they lost. They used to have a huge Ravens message forum, I guess it dried up.

This model will ultimately fail.
A news organization relies upon the masses.
The masses aren't buying subs. Only select groups.
Down. They. Go.

Most newspaper that offer a # of free views per month just track it by browser. So you can double the amount you can see by alternating between Chrome and Firefox.

Did you figure that out on your own? :0003

Nope, someone told me about it after I posted a message about complaining about limited # of free articles by similar sights.

I was complaining about charging for pics. A page right out of the porn sites.

Anyway, I was kidding and trying to be funny so calm down. :0008

I think they'll all end up teaming up with Amazon, Apple, and Google. Maybe not those exact three but I'm betting Amazon will be in the mix with Bezo's acquisition of the Washington Post. Google would do well with this too because of all of the models they have set up with Adsense and Adwords, not to mention the search they have in place, and their overall experience in the field. Google likes to get their hands in everything. I don't think the subscription model will work either, consumers don't want to pay for news. However, they'll come up with something that works well. I bet a lot of them are already trying to put something in place. The crap content will have remnant inventory tied to it and the high value content will most likely have premium advertisers. They all know they can monetize their content and the questions of how and when remain.

Just my two cents...

Even better than switching browsers all the time, is to you use Google Chrome -- Incognito Mode, I think Firefox has something called private mode. It basically doesn't store any information after you close out.

I go to the main page and find the link I want and just right click and say Open in Incognito mode

Here is information on how to do it in Google CHrome:

Here is how to do in Firefox - Private Mode

Newspapers have gutted their staffs almost completely. To the tune of more than three quarters. There are thousands of journalists out of work. Editorial staffs, photo staffs, writers, ad reps, pressroom, circulation and on and on. Why haven't you heard much about it? They aren't gonna to print that in the newspapers. Are they? I've seen some mention by competitors. Chicago Sun Times let their entire photo staff go.

The reason being; they can't make money from the internet to support themselves. There just isn't enough revenue that there was in print journalism. And slowly but surely, the printed paper will be a thing of the past.

So when you think "cheap assholes," just realize they won't be around much longer.

And when you think about newspapers and journalists dying off completely, remember that it will be the end of Democracy to a certain extent. There will be no check and balances in this country. City, state and national government will go on about there business unchecked. No one will know what law enforcement is doing, what your city council is doing or passing, your state legislators, crime criminals in the city and so on and so on.....People don't really know what they're asking for, if they want to see newspapers completely die off. JMO.
