Regardless of what you say, Wayne, you are assuming they are terrorists. All I seek is balance. I would have thought you would agree with me now that you don't trust government since the socialists are in charge. Let's have someone else look at the "detanee's" other than Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-military-intelligence. Just like I'm sure you will want full transparency of everything Obama does.

Just playin fair.

I think he means the US when he says "we". I think he means the "US" when we are involved in a legitimate conflict not one instigated by a psychopath and his administration.

Who do you think he means, the trial lawyers?

Eddie

Battlefield is not place to bring in attorney's--even the obvious like Hussein (Saddam) will have some U.S. attorney trying to say they were innocent via twinkie defense etc--however that is minor compared to the personal injury attorneys like yourself who will follow trying to claim benefits for strained backs while swing those chopping axes.;)

Curious, Wayne, how long, exactly, would you say a "prisoner" should be held in captivity when it cannot be proven that they were guilty of anything that they would be being held for? When evidence cannot be provided, uncovered, or even manufactured (if all else fails) to show that they should be held at all? And in some instances, those detainees were turned over for a ransom of $5,000 by non-Americans with no questions asked? How long should people be held?

Simple question. There is a big difference IMO between a proven terrorist, or even someone who has proven ties to terrorism, and someone who simply is neither - with no proof produced or provided for years.

If you think that America is somehow "winning" by doing this, I guess that's ok for you. Simple proof is something that the country was kind of founded on, wasn't it? Especially after several years?

Chad I am more concerned about the ones that go free and go back to battle field--just like I have more concern for the lives saved than the temporary discomfort Khalid Sheikh Mohammed went through-but thats just me.

Guantanamo Solution Remains a Defense Department Priority, Spokesman Says
By Army Staff Sgt. Michael J. Carden
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13, 2009 ? A solution for closing down the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has vexed Defense Department officials and will remain a challenge during President-elect Barack Obama?s administration, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said today.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has advocated shutting down the facility since he was appointed two years ago. And while Obama has expressed similar interests throughout his campaign, both acknowledge it ?may take some time? to accomplish, Morrell said during a Pentagon news conference.

?The challenge, of course, has been for this president and for this secretary: How do you close it?? he said. ?There are a range of outcomes, a range of possibilities under discussion, and no one has settled on, at this point, any one option or solution to this thorny problem.?

Before U.S. officials close the facility, Gates wants to see legislation outlining where and how the detainees will be housed to ensure they don?t return to violence, Morrell said. The host country must guarantee their safe treatment and provide for their confinement effectively, he added.

?There are some [detainees] we have identified as being ready to be transferred back to their homelands,? he said. ?We are just looking for a willing recipient of them, a willing government to take them on ? so they don't return to terrorism.?

Another issue is recidivism. Morrell said 61 detainees who have been held and then released from Guantanamo Bay are suspected or confirmed to be ?returning to the fight.?

A prior report released by the Defense Department showed that 7 percent of detainees released from Guantanamo continued pursuing acts of terrorism. The new numbers reflect an 11-percent increase of known terrorist re-engagement, with 18 confirmed and 43 suspected, he added. However, he could not confirm specifics or locations of these attacks.

?So there clearly are people who are being held at Guantanamo who are still bent on doing harm to America, Americans, and our allies,? he continued. ?So there will have to be some solution for the likes of them, and that is among the thorny issues that the president-elect and his new team are carefully considering.?

Morrell said the Defense Department has encouraged countries around the world to house some of the detainees. Countries such as Portugal and Germany have responded by publicly declaring their willingness to take on some of the detainees, and have urged other European countries to do the same.

?It would certainly help us draw down the population in Guantanamo Bay,? he said. ?We certainly believe there are many detainees there who are qualified to be moved out. And so we are encouraging of those countries that are willing to do so to step up to the plate and offer to take them. That would certainly be a way to help diminish the overall numbers in Guantanamo.?

Wayne:

You define waterboarding as "temporary discomfort".

thats like saying the surface of the sun is tepid.

or

warren buffett is well off.

or

rolltide is big boned.

My country doesn't torture. We get our information legally (or Jack Bauer gets it by torture and doesn't broadcast it to everyone)

90 days, lets see if he lives up to the empty promises

where my check? I need to pay my mortgage and gas...I think it is more of his followers, following him blindly not knowing what he stands for, just wanting a handout, not him personally, because he seems like he is a good guy. I don't like the fact all the brothers have latched on to him like he is going to give them free shit:shrug:

all the brothers, huh?

Under a mask.
Havent heard of the closing numbers today, but was doing quite nice near the closing bell.

This was due to positive gains by banks, which was the reason it tailspined yesterday on negative gains.Nothing to do with presidents.

Gonna be like this for some time.Get used to the rollercoaster.

Hedge's post is typical racist crap that may not be heard very often in your neck
of the woods, but is sadly commonplace in these parts. I hear this type
of commentary on a daily basis. For most of my adult life, I was under the impression that this type of behavior is
common nationwide. Not too sure about that these days...........:(

just like I have more concern for the lives saved than the temporary discomfort Khalid Sheikh Mohammed went through-but thats just me.

Again, do you have any length of time that you think would qualify as enough to determine if a person is a terrorist? Or if they have done anything worthy of being held?

Do you honestly consider say, seven years, as any kind of "temporary?"

I have concern, too. I have no problem with extreme measures being taken against determined terrorists. Prudent, necessary, encouraged, even, from my perspective. But that's not what we're talking about here, in many cases. Again, what if they were Americans being held in another country? Would that be ok? Or what about for Americans that might be captured in the future? By any country? This sets a precedent that might be hard to justify against in the future, for OUR country.

I know you avoided my question, I understand why. It's understandable avoidance, when taking that position.

here you go, the brothers down the street had a fuckin party last night, while I was taking the dog for a walk and a big dump in their yard:sadwave: the white man will be 3rd class citizens soon, give it some time

That's nice. I guess if a black person throws a party, they should get dog shit in their yard.

So glad your type is dying out.:) God bless America.

Against my better judgement...

Hedgehog, do you think that all blacks are alike? Are they all the same "folks?" Where do the blacks live, in all of our areas of America? Who are these blacks that you speak of?

I'll stop there, for now. Any answers would be enlightening...I guess.
