and now the" Fox and the box story"
Every morning I take out my dog who is a 13 year old cockier spaniel who is about 85% deaf. I live in a condo complex but there is a green belt near me. This morning at 5.30 am I grabbed my flashlight ,dog bag and leashed my dog Mambo.. I opened the front door and took a quick turn to a small field of grass where I take my dog .. maybe about 30 yards away straight ahead of me I saw what looked like a grey coyote .. mambo wasn't paying attention . I stopped and put the flash light right on the coyote. But It looked a lot smaller and shorter.. I realized it was a grey fox that I had seen about 2 weeks ago in the condo's back yards.
I stopped and put the flashlight directly on him.. he stopped and looked right out me and growled...hard to explain the sound.. a mix of a cat and something else..with a deeper sound. He looked at me with his hiss and then took off. I just turned and did a 360 and went back into the condo.. I grabbed a walking stick by the door . it is a real walking stick very similar to the stick Charleston Hess had when he separated the Red Sea in the movie " the ten commandments ". Went outside again but the fox was gone. I used my flash light going back and forth to make sure it was safe. Was somewhat scared because you have to remember I was born in the Bronx.. it was a grey fox and everyone says they are harmless and more scared of humans ..
Have only seen 4 foxes in my life or maybe 3...
one dead one on the side of the road..a red fox....another one ran in front of me going to work , it was a beautiful red fox and that night I was going to see the Marist Red Foxes play.. I also told this story here many years ago..I handicapped the game and can't remember if I took Marist or thought it was a bad omen or good.. I am going to take a stab at this . I took the Red Foxes that night and covered ...
the other fox was also told here many years ago
Every year in the summer we took about 150 at risk students to Frost Valley Camp in Sullivan County for 3 or 4 days.. we stayed in cottages and did team building and peer pressure activities.. the Principal of the school never went but I did for 4 years.. I loved it..that is where I gave out my Juan samuel cards to kids {another story}
On the last day the 5 school buses would come up to pick us up to get back to the High School . on the 2 mile driveway just as you were getting back on the highway I noticed a beautiful silhouette of a fox on a big rock looking down on us as we left the camp grounds.. it was so picturesque... a fox looking down almost thanking us for being guests at the camp,
when we got back to the high school parking lot I was talking to the teachers and chaperones about that fox on the rock . I thought it was amazing until one of the teachers said " box that was a statue on the rock kinda saying thank you.. " they asked me if I saw it move and I didn't.. so everyone was laughing at me.. in fact at one of my retirement dinners a teacher got up and told that story "the day box saw a fox "
but this morning it was a real fox .. my daughter and son came over today for a cookout. I told my grand children and everyone the fox story about 4 or 5 times. my wife says I add to this story every time I tell it..
I saw the fangs of this fox as he approached me .. next year I will be telling everyone what happened last year on fathers day..I wrestled with the fox and hit him as he ran away :mj07:
again hope everyone had a nice fathers day...not sure if there is a moral to the fox story..
