Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
saw it

saw it

turns out it is a 3 parter....actually nodded off for 15 minutes of it...when it ended abruptly, the audience, including myself, thinking it was a one and done, let out a huge groan.

I will wait for Redbox for the rest of it.

While I thought the Lord of the Rings trilogy was overrated, it was a technically brilliant movie that really raised the bar for special effects. The sheer greediness of stretching a short book like The Hobbit into a trilogy is despicable. I was looking forward to seeing the hyper-realism of a movie shot in 48 fps 3D though. Sadly, it is being showed only dubbed down here. They better not pull that shit when Oz comes. I think that one should be pretty good.

LOL embarrassed to say I've seen it twice already. Standard 2d last week but saw the 48fps yesterday... fuckin' awesome. A bit long the second go around but it delivered. Imagery was amazing although at times was a bit cartoony. Can't beat the Goblin King under the mountain scene... fuckin' love that shit. Very true to book with a bunch of added content based on appendices.

This makes me even more pissed that it's being released in only the dubbed version here. I wish Hollywood would force these bastards to take the movies as is. Who in the hell seriously enjoys watching dubbed movies? The absolute worst is the Simpsons in Spanish. The most talented voice actors in the world being dubbed over. Fucking unconscionable. :sadwave:

Dubbed?

It's FPS. Not voice.

I saw it, and it was hugely disappointing. For reference, I have seen the LOTR trilogy which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I have read the books.

The cartoon version of The Hobbit was excellent (1970ish?).

Hopefully, part II and III will require far less backstory and introduction and have a lot more action.

The Bilbo and Gollum scene where they traded riddles has to be disappointing for anybody who has read the book.

4.5 out of 10

:sadwave: That is disappointing to hear. I had read in some reviews that they actually got that riddle scene right and that it was one of the highlights.

:nono: Sorry, but I find it hugely distracting to watch something where the lips move but the sound doesn't come out with it. That is only fun when you are really, really baked and watching a kung fu movie IMO. Then you can just laugh at it. I may still go just to see what the 48 FPS is like, but I just know I am going to be sitting there pissed off that they dubbed it.

I've read The Hobbit 3 or 4 times and have to say I humbly disagree. I thought they nailed the riddle scene. Bilbo's subsequent escape could have been better. Didn't mind so much though since it was interspersed with the awesome and extended dwarf escape from the Goblin King and his hordes.

I'd give it an 8 out of 10 since it did drag in parts.

Hash, talking with Six-Five about movies is exactly like talking to a retarded child about how paint does not have flavors regardless of color.

Six-Five does not understand movies.
He does not like movies.
He will tell you otherwise though.

Don't worry, maybe the movie will be good for you. Wizards, dragons and trolls do not interest me. I hope you go see it despite Mr. Scoops telling you otherwise.

This post by Comfort further proves my point.

I like good movies. I don't like movies that are so boring I fall asleep. :0008

Joker went to see "Where the Wild Things Are". I didn't. Point proven I know more about what a good movie is and isn't.

Compare the Hobbit to Revenge of the Sith. The first of a series of 6 that came out after episodes 4, 5, and 6 (and sucked balls comparatively). Hopefully Hobbit 2 and 3 improve just like the Star Wars genre.

That kind of prove Joker's point. Revenge of the Sith was the third episode.
