Madjacks 3rd anniversary, May 10. Excuse the format. Gonna do some serious rambling here
smile.gif

About 6 years ago I got my first computer and found the internet. I started out on aol as a rookie to all this. It didn?t take me long to find what I was looking for. I was looking for sports gambling information. Within a few months I must have had 150 people that I knew well and exchanged emails with. I used to frequent a stocks chatroom and a gambling chatroom on aol. I became addicted to the internet. And those were the days when you had limited time on aol. I forget how many minutes were alloted but every month I went WAY over the limit. Also, because I am in a rural area I had to dial up long distance to get online. It used to cost me about 1200 a month to play this shit. It was fun though

No way I?m going to remember all the names and sorry if you?re missed but I?m sitting here whipping this up as I go. Just typing off the top of my head.

A few guys that I got to know real well on AOL?..one was keith (most of you know him). He used to post here regularly and even ran a contest for us last year for baseball. He?s one of the few I met in person. We went to a ravens game 2 years ago. Had a great time drinking pitchers of beer at hooters before the game and continued the drinking all night long. I think I might still be feeling that hangover

love ya, keith. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Another good guy was paul from pittsburgh. He?s another I met in person. I went to pitt and played golf with paul at his club. We had a nice sum bet on the round and we tied. I think we both shot 87. ugh! I met paul at his business (he?s an undertaker) and before we went to the club I had to go with him so he could move a body. Geez!

keep in touch, paul

Another guy I?ll mention is the shrink. This was before ken had a website but he was touting his picks on the AOL post your picks forum. He had an incredible amount of people that were getting his plays (paying for them) and they were the happiest bunch around. So, I signed up too. The only service I ever paid for. I signed up for his college hoops season that year. I think I paid him 200 bucks and he went on the most unbelievable streak I?ve ever seen. I was betting 300 a game and in 6 weeks I won over 18,000. Unbelievable, ken! Those were the days. Then baseball season came, I signed up for that and gave most of the 18K back. That was the end of services for me. No more, ever! I still keep contact with ken from time to time and just want him to know that the streak he had in hoops was one of the most memorable experiences I ever had betting sports. I?ll never forget it.

I also have good memories of unholycow, tom from picks to click, eddie, bpdrama, wild bill, swami, novak, jngmd, toofat4you and some others whose names I can?t recall right now. Those were the days!

Then, one day, I got banned from AOL. I got banned for posting about a trip I was trying to get together for superbowl Sunday in vegas. I was lost, man! I lost all my bookmarks, my email addresses, you name it. I was lost out here. All the info I got at the time was strictly found on aol. I had no idea of the info that could be found on THE REAL internet, but I was a rookie, and I was lost.

It took a little while but I started to learn my way around out here. I still missed the gambling chatroom we all visited every night on aol and couldn?t find one out here so I had to figure out a way to get one. I found one at xoom and started madjacks on xoom?s free web hosting plan. I started a gambling website. It was my hobby. It was fun. It took forever to learn some of the stuff I was doing but I loved every minute. I kept adding to that site. Started posting my picks daily with a little write up and watched the hits come in. I think I was getting about 50 hits a day and 40 were mine. Lmao! Then I started a baseball contest. I called haden at wsex and asked if he would put up $100 for a one week contest. HE WENT FOR IT! YES!! So, I told the people at wagertalk about my contest and got about 40 people to play. I was one happy guy. The hits gradually started coming. After a few months I was getting around 200 hits a day. I remember the first time I hit 300 and then the time I got 500. I was one proud mutha

Madjack... nice historical perspective for us newbies

A couple of quick questions.

Why would AOL ban you for the Vegas trip?

How did you come up with the handle MadJack? Afterall, we're all just a little bit crazy

Why would AOL ban you for the Vegas trip?

i had 3 TOS violations for using profanities and was banned once. i called them and was reinstated. a few months go by and i'm on good behavior. i was trying to get people together for a superbowl weekend in vegas and i got a TOS for 'off topic'. they banned me and would not let me back.

How did you come up with the handle
MadJack?

that was one of my user names on AOL. i saw some kind of liquor one day at a liquor store called "madjack".

Thanks for bringin' this up to the top, Jack. You musta posted it originally when I was, uh, you know, outta circulation.

Man, I remember them AOL days. They was great! I can remember too how lost I was when I got the AOL ban. It was the first time I ever told the Vegas Story (http://www.madjacksports.com/vegastrip.htm) and they tossed me for...

Finally, Small Change put into words what we all was thinkin'. "This is
the tits!"
he said. "I could get used to this!"

Seems lame now, but them bastids made me feel like a criminal.

BTW - Looks like I might finally make the Super Bowl party. I can hardly wait to meet everybody!

I play too many suited connectors when I don't have anything to do so I took a trip down memory lane today. So much scandal :mj07:

Thanks again for the site, Jack

Keith was really something--remember he use to cut and paste his plays from sportsbook site--was not unusual for him to have 4 to 8 plays at $2,000 a pop daily.

Wonder how Barfly's tennis protege turned out? He had a student that was really kicking butt in junior tourneys.

Wonder if Yanks and Nancy ever worked things out?

Those days seems like decades ago--time flys

Thought of you and Wally yesterday Jack--was sad day at my house-- went in to feed my parrott and he was dead.:(

jack...reminds me of how thrilled i was when i discovered the net and didn`t have to wait until an hour before gametime.....getting shitty last minute lines and dealing with psychopathic bookies....

obviously, this site is amazing..info...access to so much info....the net is amazing..

the idea of communicating with guys from all over the world...it still f-cking astounds me...

i`ve wasted so many hours of my time....time in which i could have been doing something constructive...discussing sports, politics, general b.s....right here ....

and i wouldn`t change a thing...i`d miss it terribly...

classiest site on the net...may you have many more anniversaries...

thanks..

I remember the AOL days very well........the shrink went by AW222..........Nolan Dalla called himself HoldDemAces.....the shrink and I had a friendly rivalry going......every week we would email back and forth about who had the best NFL picks and usually deride each other but fairly good naturdley......one year he decided to have a contest for the playoffs only....we had about 15 or 20 people enter for I think about $25.00 each....it was the year Dallas played Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl in 1996.......it was pretty close all the way through but I was ahead.......I was one game ahead of the shrink when the last game came around and we were emailing each other about the game.....he was dying to know my pick because he knew he would have to take the other side.......the spread was 13.5 and I had not even thought about it yet but he asked my pick and I told him Pittsburgh no contest......well he ate that up he loved Dallas and had about a million reasons......he lost and actually sent me the prize money......in later years as our rivalry continued he complained about that often saying he never should have paid me......God rest the shrink he was not a bad guy with a great big ego and perhaps a bit misguided
