fed and estate taxes are just a part of the equation,l.i.a.....in maryland alone the pols have implemented 24 new taxes and "fees"(i.e. hidden taxes) the last few years......people are moving in droves to northern virgina and florida.....i`m considering relocation as we speak...

Northern Virginia? :scared

I don't know the tax situation but housing costs are probably one of the highest in the country. I didn't check, I am just assuming.

And you're not going anywhere anyway.

it`s a serious consideration..we don`t need the house we have now....the old lady doesn`t want to put distance between the family...but i hate this f`ing state and our thief-in-chief o`malley....

at some point, you can`t just keep confiscating and printing more money....none of us can do that...if money gets tight,we have to cut back on some things...

pretty soon, the dollar will be good for nothing more than wiping our asses...the fact that nobody understands that amazes me...

Powerball forces tax on winner in the amount of 65 Million!! How dare they. Oh, wait, he takes home 130 million.

I'm still confused by the thread. Man wins some coin by hitting a half court shot. He 'owes' taxes out of his winnings. And what's the problem?

the fucking guy still has 50k more than he did before he made the shot. and he lives in a state that has no income tax, assuming he lives in FL. I think he'll be alright.

any chance to complain about the gov and some people just line right up.

this is why some folks are upset...

fed taxes..anywhere from 10-28% for most mj`ers

state taxes..anywhere from 4-9%(in maryland the pols in this one party state were nice enough to lay a piggyback tax of 1.25 to 3.20 on top of the state tax)

social security tax...roughly 6.2% with your throwing in an even bigger chunk(non-reduced for 2011-2012)....

sales tax...lets say roughly 5-7% or more for "progressive" states

throw in gas, utility, licensing, airport,PROPERTY, personal property, death, alcohol and tobacco..not to forget the afforementioned "fees"(too numerous to mention in my state, including a 2.5% proposed hospital rate assessment tax which will be passed on to consumers) ... .and on and on... and you`re talking about the government taking around 50% of what you earn...higher in some areas...

and guess what?... we`re still in debt up to our asses......what does it take?...a greece-like total collapse to wake people up?...

but,the truth is,you get the government you deserve...and the people have spoken...so,power to the people!!...

i`m outta here...:sadwave:

I thought this country was all about making sure that the rich pay their fair share?

50k is right around the median salary in the UNited States.

He got it all in one quick moment - he needs to pay his fair share.

These are the rules we live by, and have lived by. I mean jeepers creepers, reading about this incident it makes it seem like this is the first time this has ever happened.

not familiar with indiana`s particulars, but i`d bet that the that the cost of living(housing/food etc) are less than the coasts....

you`re very well off...not everybody is...

many guys on here don`t think twice about flying to vegas for the super bowl or jetting cross country to play golf....

i`m happy that most are well off...but,that`s not the norm...that`s the exception...

?It's amazing to me how many people think that voting to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping poor and suffering people is compassion. Voting for our government to use guns to give money to help poor and suffering people is immoral self-righteous bullying laziness.

People need to be fed, medicated, educated, clothed, and sheltered, and if we're compassionate we'll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. There is great joy in helping people, but no joy in doing it at gunpoint.

People try to argue that government isn't really force. You believe that? Try not paying your taxes. (This is only a thought experiment -- suggesting on CNN.com that someone not pay his or her taxes is probably a federal offense, and I'm a nut, but I'm not crazy.). When they come to get you for not paying your taxes, try not going to court. Guns will be drawn. Government is force -- literally, not figuratively.

I don't believe the majority always knows what's best for everyone. The fact that the majority thinks they have a way to get something good does not give them the right to use force on the minority that don't want to pay for it. If you have to use a gun, I don't believe you really know jack. Democracy without respect for individual rights sucks. It's just ganging up against the weird kid, and I'm always the weird kid.?
