don't know a thing about them other than they're supposed to be fast and trouble free.

Anything I should be made aware of?

Thanks

A couple things.....

Life will be easier with a Mac.

There aren't any widespread viruses written for Mac based computers - ZERO. (That may change someday - but for now - ZERO)

Macs take some getting use to - a couple of weeks. But know this, you will find that the biggest problem is overcoming how simple everything is. You will find yourself saying - that's all I had to do?

One downside is that there are millions of software titles available for PC and only a couple million available for Mac. Some things aren't available for Mac, but so far it hasn't been a problem for me - if your job requires you to use a certain type of software - check and see if it is Mac compatible.

For the most part - the BIG software is available for Mac. Microsoft Office, Adobe products etc....

Any more questions - let me know.

I'm going to buy my first Mac too. Wait until after the iPad launches in April. Then the new MacBooks should be out with a faster processor.

This and...

once you go Mac.....you'll never go back:SIB

This!

I bought my first Mac about 4 years ago and I now own 3 for my business as well. I download the shit out of things and have never had a single problem with spyware, malware, whateverware. A lot of software is compatible with the Mac now where in the 90's it wasn't. I have Microsoft Office and Adobe products running and there are no glitches. You pay for a Mac but your paying for a far superior product, the computer will last longer the only negative is it takes a couple of weeks to get used to them.

There really isn't all that great a reason for not buying a Mac now - like one of the new MacBooks. I have been a user for years, and there's nothing like the experience. The great thing now, is the Parallels program, which is not expensive, and allows you to run Windows on the Mac unit. I run both Windows and my Mac OS at the same time, seamlessly going back and forth depending on what I need to do.

You can't do that with a PC, and you can do virtually ANYTHING you can do on a PC on a Mac now. I get so sick of the PC/Windows format and the constant upgrading and patching that goes on, so many programs running that you don't even know about.

The real drawback for some is the price. Macs are more expensive. But for the security and virus option, and being able to essentially run both formats on the Mac, seamlessly now? No comparison, I don't think. GO MAC.

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
Buy it....

Buy it....

I have had a Mac since December......

It runs SOO smooth, no Drama, freeze-ups, constant patches, viruses, it is almost boring to use, as there is no shock value anymore, it just keeps plugging along ....shud have done it many years ago.

You know I did shoot a ton of praise for the MAC in an earlier post and forgot to mention my only negative experience with it.

I own 3 macbook pro laptops, 2 of which are stationary in my office and the other I transport everywhere. One of the stationary laptops magnetic block charger began to burn off right at the point of entry of the laptop. The wires freyed and the plastic burnt and rolled back. I was told that it was a problem they were having with the chargers. The first guy told me it would be $79 to fix the second guy on Mac AppleCare sent me one brand new for free.

So I guess a negative turned into a positive experience

So glad to hear from you Buddy. I bought a MacBook for my wife about a month ago. At the store we also bought a wireless printer for the Dell computer in the basement. We joked on the way home that the Mac was supposed to be so easy that it would probably take longer to set up the printer than the computer. Sure enough it did. It took a total of 13 minutes to have email, internet, and the computer set up. I quit messing with the printer after 2 hrs and one call to support.

I told my wife that Mac should be targeting retirees. It was the simplest computer ever and the ease of use is worth the money. I want one for my self now so bad but can't justify the money.

Good luck - I highly recommend the new MacBook.

I have to admit, I'm fairly ignorant about Macs. The only thing I've ever really heard is that graphic designers love them, but if you're not a designer don't bother spending the extra money. I'm not saying that's true at all, that just seems to be the consensus I've heard.

It looks like the MacBook Pro with only a 13-inch screen is $1,499??? WOW. How can Apple justify charging that much for a laptop? Aside from ease of use and less security issues, what else is there that could warrant these being 3x what PCs are? I'm not being a smartass, I'm genuinely curious what all the differences are. I'm thinking for that much money it should do my dishes as well. :142smilie

Unless you're an artsy-fartsy type I wouldn't bother.
Macs are triple the money & software is expensive.
Just get a good virus program, stay off the porn sites and you'll be fine.
The new windows 7 is amazing!

Yeah, that's what I've heard, too. The people I've talked to say it makes a lot of sense to get a Mac if you're into design, but aside from that the difference in price is too much to justify not just getting a PC.

Again, I don't know if that's really true or not. I suppose it's all a matter of opinion. At my work the entire graphic design department has Macs, but everyone else has PCs.

As stated earlier.....once you go to a MAC you'll never go back. PC's are crap compared to MAC's.

It is like sex with a condom......if you always had sex with a condom you would like sex and never know the difference.

Then the first time you have sex without a condom, you are like HOLY SHIT....this is incredible.:scared

It's funny you say that, I typically wear a condom when I use my PC.

What if I buy a black Mac? I would have to think if you went back after that there would be a warrant out for your arrest.

:142smilie Ok, I'll bite... what makes Macs so much better than PCs? Personally, I've never had any problems with my PCs. Shit, I've had my current laptop for over 4 years and it was only $500.

I understand that Macs are more efficient and have fewer security issues, but I can't imagine paying 300% more for just that. There has to be more to the story. What specifically is better on Macs?

that's what used to be said about macs about 10 years ago. I'm a Graphic Designer so i've used macs for over 15 years but I also do all of my bookeeping, word processing, email, internet browsing, and whatever else you may need a PC for and i also have two PC's hooked up to my network and can go back and forth with any files without a problem.Yes macs are slightly higher in price but you save that money in any hardware/software issues you will have with PC's.

300% more? not really. it's like buying a Yugo and saying why should i buy a Mercedes if my Yugo gets me around just the same. You get what you pay for.
