I had to put down my best friend yesterday and its killing me. I have had this dog since he was a pup.
Sat morning about 2am he woke me up by barking so I got up and let him out. He puked as soon as he hit the grass. When I let him back in he wouldnt lay down. All he would do was just stand and not move. I knew something major was wrong. The vets opened up at 8am so we were there right when the doors opened. He was in the back of the car and I couldnt get him out. The vets had to come out and carry him in.
He had a bloated stomach and they couldnt relieve the pressure. The vet said its common in big chested dogs and no one knows the reason why it happens. He showed me the x-rays and his stomach was so bloated that it was crushing his other organs. He said when this happens it cuts off the bloood flow and the other organs start to die off. They tried to relieve the pressure but couldnt because his stomach had twisted itself in a knot. They even stuck a needle in him to relieve the pressure but that didnt work.
So I made the hardest decision I have ever had to do.He was put down.
Every where I look and every thing I do reminds me of him.I tried to keep busy by pulling the motor out of my demo car but it ended up being ...work on the car for 30 min ...come in the house and cry for 30 min. This went on for the whole day.
I know what I did was the right thing for him but that dosent even begin to ease the pain I am feeling. He was 10 yrs old and I had him since he was a pup.
This whole thing made me change how I view life because if I had known the night before that it was going to be his last night he would have eaten like a king. Nothing but steaks and beers. (He loved beer but would only get the backwash out of the cans because I knew to much wasnt good for him)
If I could only turn back the hands of time to relive the last few hours with him..
RIP....Bubba... 1995-2005
