You hit the nail on the head. More important than cost of living, is how is it living there. I don't want to read stats on crime, etc...but I want to hear from people in the know that while a certain city may have a lot to offer, it may or may not be a good place to raise a family. We would be without family in any of the places we choose to go, and would like to know if the areas are neighborly and good people.

Where I live in north Dallas, as I stated, life is but a time to show others what you have compared to what they don't. Yes, there are great people here, but I seem to find more that could really care less about you than ones that do.

Obviously we wouldn't make a move that was a bad financial one for us. Income would have to increase significantly to move somewhere that the cost of living is dramatically more than Dallas.

But my main reason for asking is that I don't want to waste my time sending out resumes only to get the job, move there, and realize I moved my family to hell.

We want to be someplace that offers more than just shopping and sports teams. Dallas offers next to nothing when it comes to natural beauty. It is flat land and boring. Yes, the tits here are great, but again, they are part of the thing I just mentioned about showing others what you have compared to what they don't. Mo Money.

Thanks for all the comments. I hate to see anyone get pissed off, because this is just curiousity for me right now.

Thanks again.
Portland Oregon has gotten a little spendy but as far as quality of life-natural beauty etc etc tough place to beat.Hour from the mountains hour from the coast--close to Seattle SF, 2 hr flight from Vegas and on and on.Good Luck wherever you end up

I moved from Atlanta to Nashville when my wife and I were expecting our first child. Seriously, one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I liked Atlanta, but never loved it due to traffic and crime. Food scene is becoming pretty stellar in Atlanta, though, so I miss that part and my friend base there.

Nashville, on the other hand, is a great place to be with a family. Traffic is in check... for now. Housing market never really had a huge boom, so it is not experiencing many of the letdowns of larger cities. The food scene is getting better all of the time, but it's still not up to par with the big boys.

Can anyone tell I love to eat?

Cities that I love: Chicago, Boston, Salt Lake City (would never live in Chicago or Boston due to winters)
Cities I dislike: Cincinatti, Dayton, Miami

Salt Lake City is a diamond in the rough.

I am like Jack where I can live anywhere with my work. We are in Nashville to be somewhat close to family. We will probably buy a place in North Carolina or Oregon once the kids are in college (many years down the road)

moved from plymouth mass [45 miles south of boston] to s.c. 4years ago. wish i had done it 20 years ago...plymouth is a beatiful place to live, and many people there work in boston [50 minute train ride.] also the gateway to cape cod.good schools, ocean, forests etc. BUT only about 5 months of decent weather a year! take a look at the low country in s.c. people here call it paradise !!little hot in summer, but outdoor living year round....also very affordable housing here is 1/2 of what it is in mass...
