playing this one a little stronger than normal:

southern cal (+8.5) over stanford
southern cal moneyline (+365) over stanford

adding:
southern cal 2h (+7)

(assuming memory is correct- this 2h line is similar to usc/arizona 2h line when trojans pulled the upset. 2h line WOULD allow for stanford to "simply win the game to cover the 2h", but i think trojans hang on)

(2h line was +100)
(wont matter, as usc gonna lose by DD apparently)

southern cal

a couple of reasons for backing the trojans here:

1) not uncommon for teams who werent preseason top 5 to just have a "cup of coffee" in the top spot when they get there. the destination isnt as nice as the journey. i know stanford is playing for a perfect season but this is a spot for complacency, and its happened to many teams better than stanford in the past. its more psychological than anything else.

2) southern cal is one of those teams that plays up and down to their level of competition. theyve suffered some inexplicable losses.....but theyve shown an ability to play the elite teams tough. theyve beaten arizona on this court - and im of the belief that when its all said and done, zona will advance further than stanford in the tourney

3) trojans have fared well in this series lately. they faded on the road in the first meeting, but held their own for a large portion of the game. they dominated stanford in the pac-10 tourney last season in a game that wasnt as close as the final score. and they played em tough the two times prior to that. so guys like farmer and craven know they arent outclassed in this matchup

dont like the fact that southern cal is lame at the line, but i think too many other things favor them in a spot for a possible upset here. but they should stay within the number, as thats where the bulk of my wager is.

FIGHT ON !!! FIGHT ON !!!

Gman,
Got a question for you regarding G-Tech/Maryland game, already took USC and USC ML with you as I loved them since the lince came out...But was thinking of doing a pretty well sized teaser with SC+13 and GTech +7...What do you think? I think the public is taking this unranked home favorite thing pretty heavy now and the line has gone up as people are pounding maryland...What do you think about G-Tech +7, I think they need this game pretty bad too, to keep some respect in the ACC...What you think?

I'd make it a 3-team 8point teaser....

GT +10 1/2
USC +16
PACIFIC +12 or NEW ORL +1

I think I'd prefer Stanford at PK though. I just think this SC team is too inconsistant. Same with AZ and thats's why I ain't touchin' that game.

vyrus:

not a big teaser guy, and normally i cap backwards (meaning i try to make reasons why NOT to play a team before i look for reasons to play ON em) but to be honest, i cant find too many negative things about tech in this game. im not a big believer in them as far as their ncaa prospects, but in this particular game- it seems like this could be a very tight game. most years, terps could bury a team at home but theyre just not doing that this year; thus i do think tech could be a good play in a tease. worth noting that while of course maryland would like to take care of business at home- they do have a big national tv game looming on sunday with duke.

Gman thanks for the response, I didnt mention I looked at the negatives as well and must agree that Tech with 3 points definatley seems like a good spread, the public is pounding Maryland because of their tought home playing and I think the North Carolina loss at Maryland (which had a similar 2.5 point spread I Believe) is definatley getting Maryland alot of respect...I think Tech is starting to get it together and really think they take this one straight up, and with a +7 i feel pretty safe

Mjalam,
I also believed Stanford was very fundamentally sound until I saw their second half collapse at ASU were they barely edged out a last second win...They were up by double digits at half shooting in the high 50's and ASU was in the low 30's, and they managed to be even b y games end...I really think Stanford doesnt cover here and very possibly could lose...IMO...GL TO US ALL

Its really hard to win on the road in the ACC. There's a shot Maryland can win by double digits as well. I'm gonna enjoy this one.

no apology necessary. i dont have an "i told you so" kind of ego whatsoever- not my style. plus, theres A LOT of time left. stanford came back from 19 down in oregon. so they dont quit.
