On the course!
Haven't had to a get a new Driver's License for a while, but it's coming due. The letter I got today, talks about the new REAL ID that our fine government will be requiring of us in the next few years.

I was a little bit shocked at the hoops I have to jump through to get one of these damned things. Cut to the chase, you need a birth certificate, among other things. Now, I don't happen to have one of these babies handy, maybe some of you do, and maybe not. Either way, I have to order one of these, and THEN go through the rest of the nonsense to get my ID.

I suppose there is some reason behind this fiasco, but I would guess, just like airport 'security', it will only be a hassle for the regular Joe, and the people who lie, cheat, and steal, will be able to get their fake shit easy as pie.

If you're an illegal in this country, we bend over backwards so as not to offend you by asking for ID. But, if you have lived here for 50 years, you have to prove who you are to get an ID?

you have had to do a 5 point (or 6 point not sure) ID system at DMV in NJ for years now.

birth certificate, proof of address, etc.

being illegal has its advantages sometimes yyz

what the hell are you talking about?

illegal or not you have to show who the fuck you are if you want a drivers license in my state. not sure why it would be any different in yours.

should they just hand out ID's to anyone with whatever name they say?

No, but if you have had one for 25, 35, 55, 70 years, maybe, JUST MAYBE, they have a fucking clue whom they are dealing with?

who is they?

it is for the people at the DMV more than anything. why should they take your word just because you already have an ID?

ok so you have an ID that you have had for 20 years or whatever, who says 20 years ago you didnt steal someones identity and have been using it ever since?

should they give you a free pass now just because you have had an ID for 20 years?

you show your documents to confirm who you are to the people at the DMV. they make sure everything matches and then you are good to go.

it is not a long process nor is it very difficult....you bring documents that everyone should have handy.

im pretty sure the guys that were apart of 9/11 had ID's from like 15 different states, so obviously some states it is pretty easy to just get an ID which might be why they want everyone on the same page and conforming to the same stricter guidelines.

Because THEY gave me the fucking thing!!!!!

yes but they could have had slack requirements when you originally got it.

now they realize their requirements should be more strict and change the rules for everyones safety.

I think it is a good idea.

I look forward to the bitchin and moanin thread you start the next time you fly, because of the grief you got at the airport for not having a valid id (or passport  ).

Sure this is the reason.

But, what happens 5 years from now, when the people who choose to not abide by the law, have found ways around this? Now, Sammy finds more hoops for Joe Public to jump through? Do we just accept this shit ad infinitum?
