New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has taken a steep discount on the going rate for elite NFL quarterbacks to help the team allocate money elsewhere and make at least one more title run in his career, according to a person familiar with the agreement.

The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because the team has not yet announced the move.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King first reported that Brady has agreed to a three-year extension at $27 million, less than half the $20 million-per-season rate the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees received last year and the mark the Baltimore Ravens' Joe Flacco hopes to eclipse this season.

They must havd known he would not test the free agent thing and would take the cut with a smile as he ages.

Very similar to what Jered Weaver did with his latest Angels deal. Could have commanded much more, but was fine with staying put and still making a pretty penny.

You guys are missing the point. He was scheduled to earn 30 million over the next 2 seasons. AS part of this deal, he receives 33 million the next 2 years as a signing bonus. By the time he reaches the 3rd season, they will reconfigure the deal. Furthermore, all 57 million is guaranteed. This deal made sense for him.

Now the truth comes out.

I thought it very believable since his wife brings home $40 million a year.

The money this household receives is ridiculous.
