tomison is god.

however, tomlison gets tired quickly and often times fumbled a lot more than the great ones.

tomlinson has 24 fumbles through 6 years, although this one isn't over.

Through 6 years:

payton: 47 fumbles

emmit smith: 8 fumbles

barry sanders: 28 fumnbles

except emmit smith the others have more.

tomlinson also has 94 touchdowns and we aren't even 6 years into his career:

Through 6 years:

payton: 70 tds

emmit smith: 99 tds

barry sanders: 68 tds

He is the whole package.

And IO....I'm kinda biased against payton. I met him once and he was the biggest prick I ever met.
But all other accounts have him as a great guy. But my experience with him was bad.

Better than Payton, Sanders:mj07:

He couldnt even hold Eric Dickersons jock....he is barely the best RB in the game today.....

still say sanders is the best...given the o-line he had to work with and the fact that you know his team couldn't throw the ball most years

Are you retarded? Who cares about how many super bowls LT has won. He still will have many opportunities to do this in his career. How many SB's have your golden boy won? Does that make Ben Rothlisberger better than Peyton Manning? NO.

LT is clearly the best running back in today's game and may end up being the best of all time.

I wonder what Barry
Sanders would have done with a stud quarterback, a good defense, and a good offensive line? LT finds the holes. Sanders made the holes. these kinds of comments are always laughable because the guy that usually makes them never takes into a fact that one guy had a lot more weapons than the other. At no time in Barry Sanders career did he even have half the team LT has now. If i had the choice right now id take Larry Johnson over him.

Walter Payton's physical style of play made his durability an incredible accomplishment. He missed just one game his entire thirteen-year NFL career, which can be credited to his fantastic physical conditioning and work ethic. He didn't work out with his teammates in the off-season, but he always came into training camp in better shape than anyone else. He had a very disciplined training regiment that included running steep hills located near his home. No doubt this type of training helped develop the leg strength and quick burst that helped him break away from defenders.
Walter Payton was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1975 out of Jackson State. He ran for 679 yards his rookie year and at least 1200 yards in ten out of the next eleven seasons. In 1977 he had a career high of 1852 yards with his average yards per carry at 5.5. He also scored fourteen touchdowns.

He finished his career as the all-time leading NFL rusher with 16,726 yards on 3,838 attempts. He had 492 receptions for 4,538 yards, giving him him a total of 21,803 combined net yards. He also scored 125 touchdowns, 110 of which were rushing. He was voted MVP in 1977 and again in 1985 when the Bears won the Super Bowl. He was named All-Pro seven times and played in the Pro Bowl nine times. He held the single-game rushing record of 275 yards (Corey Dillon rushed for 278 in 2001) and has rushed for 100 yards in a game 77 times. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season ten times. He was also named to the NFL's Seventy-Fifth Anniversary Team... and the list of accomplishments goes on and on.

You could make an argument for Walter Payton as the greatest player to play the game of football, but he was also a great person. He played for the love of the game and he gave it everything he had every Sunday. His premature death left a gaping hole on the Bear's sideline and in the broadcast booth, but I will never forget the great memories he has given to me and to all football fans.

Payton rushed for an all time high 275 yards against the Minnesota Vikings on November 20,1977. He rushed for more than 100 yards a stunning 77 times. He won the NFL kickoff return championship as a rookie. He even completed 11 out of 34 passes for 331 yards and eight touchdowns. No other running back has even remotely threatened Payton's overall production.

Ironically, Payton's exceptional rushing statistics tend to obscure the fact that he was an exceptional all-round football player, arguably the best who ever lived. He was blessed with a wide variety of athletic skills and he put them all to good use during his NFL career.

Payton prided himself on his blocking ability. When he talks about career highlights, one of his fondest memories drifts back to 1985 when he intercepted a blitzing Minnesota linebacker to make it possible for Jim McMahon to throw a crucial touchdown pass.

He missed only one game in his rookie 1975 campaign in his first 12 seasons. " I could have played but my coach, Jack Pardee, wouldn't let me. I don't count that as a miss," Payton insisted.

God damn I hate when people say that Barry Sanders was the greatest of all time. Not even close. He's a quitter. I don't care what he COULD have done. He never impressed me. At all. He was a mediocre running back, that rushed about 40 times a game. With all those attempts, I could have had those stats. :scared

BDB... how was Payton a prick? He had opened a bank in my hometown and although I was young, I met him a few times and several of my fathers friends knew him and said he was a great guy.

Just curious cause I never heard anyone speak bad of him.

first, i'll start by saying that EVERY account I've heard about the guy is that he is a great guy. But, my only experience with him is a dick. Unfortunately, that is the one that will live with me. Not trying to shape anyones opinion of the guy. Maybe I just caught him on a bad day.

but anyway, i'll make this a short story.

i was in my early 20s. Payton was doing the appearance trail. Corporations were paying him to speak and appear at their functions. I was still struggling at cards, and was running bad, or probably playing bad and this was before online poker. anyway, my friend worked at a banquet hall that did corporate events as one of its things. He got the word that some computer tech company had a holiday party where they were showcasing new computer equipment or something like that and that Walter Payton was gonna be there as an endorser. I'm sure he was handsomely paid, but nontheless he was there. The hall hired temp help all the time, and I told my friend that I would help out that day if they needed help because I really wanted his autograph for my dad. My dad grew up in chicago and is a diehard bears fan, and I wanted him to sign a ball for a xmas gift. Anyway, the deal was that Payton was to have 200 little mini footballs to sign for all the people there and throw them around and meet the guy or something like that. So my bright idea was to go to Sportmart and buy a regulation football and have him sign it to my dad. Put my dads name on there and everything. So the banquets winding down, and I go up to his place on stage and ask him to sign my football gift with my dads name and personalize it or something. The first thing he says is thats bullchit, you are just gonna turn around and sell the damn thing. I politely explained that my dad loves him and the bears and he flew out for the superbowl and is a crazed fan and that his idol is payton. I said personalize the damn thing with my dads name, how can I sell that. I said hell, its an honor for me to even meet you. He rips the ball out of my hand, signs his name only, and shoves it back to me in my gut harder than a handoff, and tells me to get out of there kid. wtf was that all about.

anyway, sorry no paragraphs. sorry if that offends anyone, and maybe i did get him on a bad day. but my dad has the ball on the mantle and its his prized possession and i'm glad i got it. it meant a lot to him and me.
