Pretty nervous about our new President, so nervous in fact, I bought an AR-15, Colt LE 6920.:scared My question is, iron sights or fancy holographics? Bought the gun for home defense against the Armageddon thats bound to ensue. These times they are a changin.:(

First off, AR15's aren't the best option for home defense, IMO. You better hit what your aiming at, because those bullets will go through multiple walls, especially if you are using FMJ's, and if you have family members in the house w/ you, I wouldn't be using one of these. Beings you already have one and intend to use as home defense, I would just go w/ the iron sights and forget about getting a scope. Be to hard to pick up anything at that close of range.

Ammo for these is getting to be a PIA to find.

Whats your timeline for the armageddon????

Thanks Captain, looked thru an EOTech 552 holographic sight and it gave me pretty rapid target aquisition. Fortunate to have lots of ammo. Live off the beaten path, multiple walls not really a factor. Also, I live in Florida and dodge Cat 3 hurricanes all summer. That would be Armageddon enough. It just seems like violent crime has really picked up lately, at least in my area(Tampa).

Kosar - how is the crime in your area? You aren't far from Tampa. It must be rough. Any plans on improving your home defense in preparation for the armagedon thingy?

Look. All I can say is that i've spent many hours debating 'iron sights' vs. 'fancy holographics.'

Choosing your assault rifle isn't as easy as it might seem.

With this new admin, I think we should all consider this. No, not just consider it, but do it!

you really don't want to be using a rifle for an in-home defense weapon. That is not what they are designed for. The length of the weapon makes it less then optimal for shooting and moving down hallways and rooms and around corners.

For an "in home" weapon you are better off with something much smaller - will allow you mobility. Or a shotgun - the spray will make up for what you lose with mobility and be much more effective than a rifle at close in combat.

Ideally, you want a sawed - off shotgun, pistol grip. you want something short, powerful, and can inflict damage.

A rifle is designed to cover distance. Which means you should be sitting in your window and have them in your sights when they are about 3 blocks away. Which you likely aren't going to be doing.

Also - if you insist on using a rifle for "home defense" don't waste your time with a scope. you'll be shooting less than 30 yards and the time it takes to find them in the scope.. you will lose valuable time.

But hey gosh darn it, it looks cool right? and you can brag to your buddies about how you stuck it to the man and will protect your home with it right?

This concludes your home defense tip of the day, please continue with regularly scheduled programming.

When will there be the show on the use of the flash-bang grenades. I use them on Call of Duty all of the the time, but I'm not sure if that experience will help.

TIA and appreciate what you're doing

From what I've been told by people that apparently know about these things Duct Tape - and even Duck Tape - probably should be all you need to ride this thing out. :SIB

Good luck.

I have no doubt the Tampa S.W.A.T. Team would enjoy prying that AR-15 from your cold dead hands.

Used to do it often. There is no bigger "oh shit factor" in the word than pulling the pin on a grenade and then holding it in your hand for a 2 count before you toss it.

I think I would suggest counting to 1 and tossing it.

just in case you fart or flinch or something stupid
happens and you drop it at your feet

PS - how many seconds would you actually have befere you are blown in half ?

3-5 seconds.

you need to "cook it" to prevent the bad guy from picking it up and throwing it back at you.

you throw it against a wall at an angle to it carries and bounces around the room making it harder to grab/catch and throw back at you.

The Brownshirts are coming. Everyone laughed at me for saying that we all need to stock up on bullets and guns and get ready for civil war. It is right around the corner boys and girls. This President is a bigger failure than I could have imagined. I sad it from day one, he was dangerous, this is just the tip of the iceberg

with a live grenade at your feet, the only option you have is to pick it up and toss it back.
