any Muslims speak out against 9-11.

most univeristies have held their meetings and said whats right and whats wrong. Taking your own life in the name of god is a no no. Wether you go to the Universities or not, thats where they are mostly held.

How did we get to PLO an Israel from a uprising in Basra. PLO and Israel is a whole story of its own. Lets go back to the uprisisng. Is it still on going close to over. OR What? And as for men in uniform they get treated differant then those who take off there uniform and become gorillias. You have a uniform you get the geneva treatment. If out of uniform you are considered a spy. Those have been rules of war for long time. Spies can be shot quickly.

djv,

here is some info on the uprising, apperently it has since been a breakout attempt by Iraqis approx 70-120 viechels from Basra to the south tonight and they are heading towards Faw, one must wonder what they are thinking T-55s against Challengers it should be a Turkeyshot for allies. Also there is reports of a RG column ( 1000 Tanks and APCs) on march from Bagdad south to meet 7th Cav at Najef. Strange that Iraqis try an manuever that never worked before, unless saddam knows something we dont, but it looks like they are facing big defeat, even if helis cant fly the A-10 Warthog will take them out.

. According to DEBKAfile?s intelligence sources, the Franks command at Doha learned that Saddam Hussein ordered his son Uday Monday, March 24, to send out army and Baath party agents with pockets full of cash on two missions: to stir up a Palestinian-style Intifada against coalition troops among the civilian populations of the towns bypassed by the allies, and to prevent the Americans and British igniting popular uprisings against the Saddam regime..

Franks counteracted by throwing into the arena a secret weapon, a 3,000-man opposition Shiite militia organized by Majid al-Khoei, the 34-year old son of Ayatollah Khoei, the legendary spiritual leader of Iraq?s Shiites. The militia, trained and funded by the US war command, waited in Qatar for the signal to go into action.

Monday night, March 25, the Shiite militiamen reached the southern outskirts of Basra at the same time as Uday Hussein?s agents entered from the north. Trapped between the two foes were elements of the British 7th Armored Division?s ?Desert Rats? positioned in the southern and western sections of Basra. By Tuesday morning, Uday?s forces with 50 tanks had evicted the British troops from Basra. By Tuesday night, they were back for the final showdown.

This is the background to the riots and armed clashes sweeping the southern city Tuesday, March 25. It also inspired the fervent hope expressed by US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld at his news briefing that the Basra uprising would succeed.

give me some examples in what we are saying is propaganda then....

other news organizations....al jazeera....is filled with a pack of liars....

we have guys like you and i down there reporting what is happening....are they liars too????

Freeze,

No, I'm not sending you back to the coola....but I gotta say. You already contradicted yourself in the same post once already.

You'd said our news is not propaganda....our news is reported objectively, then shortly thereafter mentioned, oh by the way well over half the US news media is on the liberal side of things. Well, how can our "news" be OBJECTIVE if much of it is tainted by "liberal" ideology in the first place, as you say? By the same token, news is also reported by outlets that lean conservative. So there. FACTS ARE FACTS, BUT THE NEWS CAN ALWAYS BE EMBELISHED. Remember, it's not always WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it.

As for "propaganda", I never mentioned that the U.S. news outlets or even the military LIED. Heck, the TRUTH can be propaganda, too. Here is a more thorough definition of the word PROPAGANDA:

"Propaganda consists of the planned use of any form of public or mass-produced communication designed to affect the minds and emotions of a given group for a specific purpose, whether military, economic, or political."

You don't think the Bush administration and the Pentagon planned their communication strategy ahead of time? Of course they did; they have to. Let's be realistic here. The powers that be are always trying to manipulate the media, truth or not. It's "propaganda", pure and simple. Press releases are sent out, literature is distributed, briefings and speeches are given. CNN may report it one way, FOX another, the Washington Times and the Post as well.

I have a great respect and admire those of our journalists who are down in the trenches along with our troops and in Baghdad, like Peter Arnett. I trust they are reporting what they are seeing. But after what happened in Vietnam and Gen. Westmoreland, our country has become skeptical and somewhat cynical. Military brass "lied" to us then, but I trust things have changed. Let's just keep everything in perspective. Al-Jazeera may well be "lying" as you put it, but I think of it this way. The news is always adapted to the tastes of its audience. So be it.
