Goosen was in the field at Torrey Pines, finishing in a tie for fourteenth, but when asked whether he believed that Woods was faking the extent of his pain, he said: ?I think so. It just seemed that when he hit a bad shot his knee was in pain and on his good shots he wasn?t in pain. You see when he made the putts and he went down on his knees and was shouting, ?Yeah?, his knee wasn?t sore.

?Nobody really knows if he was just showing off or if he was really injured. I believe if he was really injured, he would not have played.?

The South African was trying to soften the impact of his remarks last night, although he did not attempt to retract them, merely implying that he was not being serious. When approached by The Times on the eve of the BMW International Open in Munich, Goosen said: ?I was being light-hearted. No one but Tiger himself knows how badly hurt he was. But if he was really badly hurt, he would have withdrawn, wouldn?t he??

Goosen?s comments caused embarrassment at IMG, the management group that looks after the interests of both golfers, which would not make an official statement last night, but suggested that the South African?s remarks may have been misconstrued

Tiger made plenty of good shots where he winced in pain. Shots he didn't even watch or seem to care about because of the pain.

Plus, I never once saw him 'go down on his knees' after any of his putts.

Did you even watch the tournament, Wayne, because it seems that Goosen has no idea what he's talking about.

yup, he went down on his knees in celebration one time and they showed the replay several times afterwards. he didn't go down very hard and he did have a big smile on his face so there definitely wasn't any pain there.

Yep I watched it Matt--if you didn't see him go down on his knees you missed him running in long putt on 18 to tie in regulation--it's somewhere in between his mulitple fist pumps-and other endzone theatrics. :)

I'm sure his knee was sore Matt but so is the hundreds of others that come off rehab --and yet to see any carry on like him.

What made it more irratible to me was announcers had audacity to continue to rant about his extra ordinary thresh hold to pain--

Maybe in hindsight media more to blame than Tiger.

I think he was hurting, and I didn't think he was putting on an acting job. I think that pain was genuine, but it's just so noticeable since the camera never goes off of him. It's hard to believe you don't see him pick the occasional booger, scratch his ass, or adjust his dick occasionally too as much as he's on tape. Part of his appeal is his show of emotion; regular guys can relate to his cursing after a bad shot or throwing his club down, etc. I did see him go to both knees after a missed putt at some point.

The continual fellating by the announcers is what gets me. I agree too, Wayne, that the constant stroking over his pain tolerance was a bit over the top. Quitting a round becuase of pain is never an option for me, and it certainly wouldn't be if I was near the top of a huge event like that. I like Tiger, and I think a tourney without him playing is far more boring. Can't stand all of the announcers blowing him the whole round though.

Tiger Woods to have season-ending knee surgery

He also suffered a double stress fracture of his left tibia two weeks before the U.S. Open, ignoring doctors' advice to take six weeks off to let it heal. And he still won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, going 91 holes over five days on a knee that was getting worse.

He won despite doctors telling him to rest.

Haney was with him in Florida when doctors told Woods the preferred treatment for the stress fractures was three weeks on crutches and three weeks of inactivity.

"Tiger looked at the doctor and said, 'I'm playing in the U.S. Open, and I'm going to win.' And then he started putting on his shoes," Haney said. "He looked at me and said, 'Come on, Hank. We'll just putt today.'"

What are the announcers going to talk about during golf tournaments ? They are gonna have to do some research on the rest of the PGA Tour.

Saw that in the paper this morning. Man, what a drama queen with all his 'theatrics.' Faker!
