like the ole' adage says, "youre only as good as your last game". It was great to win 34 straight, but guess what? The trojans run ends there, with ONLY ONE BCS CHAMPIONSHIP!

With 4 wins against ND in that stretch, its tough to pity this team, but I feel like history and irony has kind of ROBBED THEM! :) \

You win 34 straight, thats 3 seasons worth of games and get screwed by the BCS out of a chance to play for a title one year, then your WINNING STREAk ENDS in a national title game!!

Talk about bad breaks. You COULD win as many as 3 titles in a stretch of 34 wins. USC only won ONE BCS title, and only a SHARE of a second. Now, to make matters worse, their seniors go out in the WORST POSSIBLE WAY, the victims of a one-man wrecking crew, and blowing a 12 point lead in the last 5 minutes of the game.

Seems like they BLEW their chance at the "greatest EVER" in those 5 minutes. ANY THOUGHTS??

It was all set up for them when they were up 12 to go down in history...there hasn't been a three-peat since Army 1946 and if SC won tonight they would have made a permanent mark in history by achieveing the three-peat which is damn near impossible in todays game...and I guess the theory still holds true defense wins championships but for SC it was the lack of D that lost it for them...Last year's team was more complete and balanced which I still think is the better of the two...There were a lot of people that said the hole in USC is their defense and that became more then obvious losing the game with a 12 point lead...Even with the loss they are still one of the best but not thee best

The only thing SC will be remembered for will be their great run of Pro players coming out of this team. AND the unbelievable hype that surrounded this team. Nobody talks about miamis 34 straight and that was 2 years ago lol

Thats my point! Why not? Because the run ended in that title game! Such a HORRIBLE way to go out, and places SERIOUS doubt on the strength of your opponents during the streak if you could only go 1-1 in title games! I understand they went 34-1 including tonight, but only 1-1 in the BIG games!!

You know what is insane is if Young comes back, which i doubt but said he would, texas would end next year with like 32 straight wins i believe considering they will go 12-0 and win NC which i dont see why not since Young is INVINCEABLE

They are not even close to the greatest team of all time. That defense. Be serious.

Northern Star Your correct That defense couldnt stop a runny nose!! Pitiful excuse for a defense and when they faced a good offensive team with a decent defense(TEXAS) They get beat!! Tells you alot! If they played in a decent conference , they would be a mediocre team at best! Looked like they were shocked Texas was putting the wood to there azzes. That happens every weekend in the top conferences defensively which the Pac-10 definately isnt!!

Dont jump to conclusions.

the team won 2 national championships and 34 straight games

Even beat the hokies on national Tv.

When did I ever equate their success to beating ND?

Thanks for the irrelevant point and another ND cheapshot. Guess Little Vick isnt the only one who believes in worthless cheapshots. :mj07:

USC = 574 total yards offense
Texas = 556 total yards offense

"Texas has decent defense and USC has a pitiful excuse for a defense that couldn't stop a runny nose."

scott, that guy dlvlsu you just quoted is one of the most irrational people i've ever come across. You can point out his flawed logic and arguments and he will just respond by cursing you out, or saying he won more money than you, even though his only bowl plays were South Carolina and Colorado State

This guy has major obession with me. When he joined this site a large % of his posts (I believe around 50%) were directed towards me all in negative fashion as you described.

But the UT D faced the greatest offense to ever grace a football field, while USC D faced a "high school gimmick" offense. Yardage & pt totals shouldn't have even been close in that case.

Funny thing is I saw one gimmick play used in this whole game & it was USC on that WR pass.

You forget Texas O is lead by Vince Young. Which makes it dangerous. If Texas did not get lucky on all those fumbles or USC not pull in the INT, Texas easily would have been held under 30pts. IT IS LUCK IF YOU FUMBLE AND RECOVER IT. NO DEBATING ON THAT. Its just the way the ball bounces and Texas took the risks of complete failure and escaped it recovering the ball. More times than not, USC will force more than 1 turnover. Thats why USC always leads the nation in turnovers. That was the #1 reason I didn't predict USC to just win, but to blowout Texas.

Doesn't change the fact Texas runs a high school offense.

Here is good example. USC had Carson Palmer and USC offense is explosive. USC loses all WR's, OL, RB's, and Palmer and USC starts Leinart. USC offense stays explosive for another 3 years even in Leianrts 1st year starting! Next season you will see either 5-star QB Booty or 5-star QB Sanchez take over and USC offense will be explosive.

Take Young out of Texas offense and you get major dropoff in production.

I don't know what you were watching at the RB. USC offense works because of the offensive system using the talent to out scheme you. Texas offense worked because of talent. How many times did YOUNG run off broken plays? That is not an offensive system. That is talent dominating a game. USC obviously could not match up talent wise on D. I thought USC could and was flat out wrong.

Texas was extremely fast on D and talented. Also tackled well. They matched up a lot better talent wise to USC O. But guess what? They couldn't stop USC O like USC D couldn't stop UT O. Mack Brown said his D couldn't stop USC ALL GAME. Same with USC D. But USC D was able to hold Texas to some FG attempts. USC O beat themselves in the 1h.

WHY WILL USC BE TOP 5 NEXT YEAR AFTER LOSING ALL THIS STAR POWER TO GRADUATION AND EARLY ENTRIES TO NFL? WHY WILL TEXAS DROP OUT OF TOP 5 IF YOUNG TURNS PRO?

Texas has many more top recruiting classes year after year than USC. They should be more talented. Carroll has only been at USC 5 years.

It is because USC uses their exceptional talent and tries to outscheme you. USC doesn't rely on 1 player to beat an opponent.

CASE CLOSED!
