Hey, not everyone can make it in life, you know? Some people have to live in the Val, IE or OC. :)

Actually, I can't lie; I love visiting the Carolinas. Alaska, too. I think sometimes people don't realize how blessed we are to have a country with so many interesting and unique places to travel.

Hey, don't blame me. I was just talking about the game when they started bringing up USC-Texas.

Notice that Scott and I both kept our comments on this week's upcoming game in our initial posts.

As a side note and something I think you all will
agree is one hell of a gamble :scared :scared

H.D. Buttercup, supposedly the biggest furniture
warehouses west of the Mississippi here in LA two
days ago came out with a promotion up till kickoff
of the USC/UCLA game, if UCLA beats UCS, any
furniture you buy will be FREE. You could go in and
buy $100,000 worth of furniture and if UCLA wins,
it's FREE :scared

Talk about a big set of balls :scared :scared :scared

Nov 2005 quote from Scott USC"Texas has so many USC weapons they have to stop. All USC has to stop is Vince Young."Sounded smart before the game, problem was USC couldn't stop Vince Young anybetter than anyone else could last season. It was like Gulliver playing with the Lilliputions. You were 180 degree off in your assessment of how easy USC could stop Young last year(All they have to do...........)Usc will not cover the 13- this week.I'll always remember the look on old usually smug Carrolls face as Young stepped on,over and around those gold and garnet uniforms for the national championship winning touchdown.Remember how that felt Scott and Nick Bad Day Douglas?I'll bet your diapers needed changing,Stay humble now. You're not #1

johnny, they interviewed him on 710 ESPN a
couple days ago, supposedly the biggest acreage
warehouse, I'd never heard of it either but I'm not
into furniture shoping, but it was on 710 and that
is one big gamble if you ask me. Can you imagine
how much they will sell between now and kickoff?

So Cal
At first I was leaning to UCLA.
Now I'm on USC-13. UCLA has a solid DLine , good secondary , very average LB's.
IMO Offensively they are below avg, I don't think they can score more then 14.
USC Def. is peaking. The last 4 games they have been lights out. Based on the USC def. performances Vs "top notch" Offense's(Ore,Cal,N.D). I'm certain stopping UCLA Off. will not be a problem at all. I think the SC def will score also. I think USC will win by 20-24pts.

Best of luck

:nono: :nono: :nono:

Actually YOU ARE WRONG.

Vince Young played awesome and USC defense couldn't stop him in the 4th quarter on Texas last 2 possessions. Well, actually USC did force Texas on 4th and 4. VY was MVP!

Here is where YOU are wrong. :nono:

#1 Vince Young would have been taken out of the game. Texas stopped USC TWICE on 4th and 1. GAME OF INCHES! I'll take that anytime to win a BCS NC. USC just came short. Leinart fell short 4th and 1 and White fell short on 4th and 1. USC converts either of those, USC is easily NC's. I"LL TAKE THAT ANYTIME! GIVE ME 2 OF THOSE OPPORTUNITIES AGAINST OHIO ST. ON JAN. 8th AND I LIKE MY CHANCES. IF USC DOESN'T CONVERT, OH WELL! USC DESERVES TO LOSE! $HIT HAPPENS!

#2 USC had the unforced turnover from BUSH which was actually illegal lateral. SCORING DRIVE for USC taken away. Nothing to do with Texas. Nothing to do with VY. USC scores there, Texas can't win the game in the 4th. Bush NEVER should have done it, but refs also should have ruled it illegal lateral. HUGE HUGE BREAK FOR TEXAS!

#3 Refs blew 2 huge calls that went in Texas favor. THIS IS A FACT and the NCAA publicly admitted it. USC lost scoring drive on Bush's lateral and Texas scored a TD on lateral where VY's knee was on ground.

#4 Despite all this weird a$$ $HIT, USC was still up double digits in the 4th quarter. AMAZING!

What you FAIL to understand is that VY would have been taken out of the game if any 1 of these odd things didn't happen. COUNT THEM ALL and ALL WENT AGAINST USC. USC would have EASILY been up by more than 14pts in the 4th quarter. WITHOUT A DOUBT. How LUCKY was Texas? If USC jumped on Texas, USC would have won by 10+ pts. If USC played TExas again, USC would have won by 10+ pts 8/10 times. That game against Texas, was the exact reason YOU ALWAYS PLAY THE GAME! USC played sloppy, and lost by 3pts. USC couldn't convert twice on 4th and 1, and lost by 3pts. (props to Texas on this) REFS gave Texas 2 HUGE breaks, and USC lost by 3pts.

All this is based on FACTUAL data. YOU CANNOT dispute it. :nono:

CASE CLOSED!

Good news is, USC seems to always play in championship games even in rebuilding years. (this year) If USC loses, there really is next year! :142smilie So I didn't mind losing to Texas so much. Especially the way it played out. (noted above) USC most likely will be back in the BCS NC again THIS YEAR. Win or lose against OSU, USC will be the odds on favorites to win it all next year. The year after, etc. NO MORE REBUILDING YEARS FOR USC! :spotting: This was the last major rebuilding year for USC and USC still might play in the BCS NC game. AMAZING! I am spoiled rotten. But, I did predict this success! Scary thing is Pete Carroll is just getting started. :scared

I thought it was crazy but the more I think about it, I think this is brillant. He is getting so much free publicity from this and its not as risky as it sounds. He can hedge by putting a large chunk on the UCLA moneyline at +400. And, I'm sure hes not cutting any deals in price this week telling people not to worry, they might get the furniture for free.

But, back to the topic at hand.

Here's an interesting article on USC's last trip to the Rose Bowl to play UCLA. Despite what Scott4SC thinks, every rational, sane person realizes it was a close game 2 years ago amongst the same teams, same field, almost identical records, and identical stakes for both teams...

In '04, USC nearly turned blue over orange
By Gary Klein, Times Staff Writer
December 1, 2006

Something felt wrong to Pete Carroll, but he wasn't sure.

At a team meeting on the eve of USC's game against UCLA two years ago, the Trojans coach cleared the auditorium at Heritage Hall of everyone but his players.

"Shut the doors," Carroll said.

USC was undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation. A date with No. 2 Oklahoma awaited at the Orange Bowl in Miami if the heavily favored Trojans got past UCLA in the regular-season finale at the Rose Bowl.

But Carroll had a sense of foreboding throughout the week. The sounds in the meetings and on the field were just ? different. Film of the practices told the same tale.

"Tell me the truth," Carroll pointedly asked his players. "What do you really think of [UCLA]?"

Two years later, Carroll does not have to ask that question.

The Trojans' narrow victory over the Bruins two years ago was enough to throw a scare into a program that is once again on the verge of playing for a national championship.

If second-ranked USC beats the Bruins for the eighth consecutive time, the Trojans will play top-ranked Ohio State in the Bowl Championship Series title game at Glendale, Ariz.

"I think we learned from that game a couple years ago," senior offensive tackle Kyle Williams said. "I don't think Coach is going to let that happen again."

Carroll still shakes his head when asked about the run-up to the 2004 game, a 29-24 USC victory that was not decided until the final minute. Earlier this week, Carroll told reporters that schedule changes and distractions in the week before finals had thrown his team off two years ago.

But current and former players said exams had nothing to do with it.

"We were thinking about playing in the Orange Bowl already," former running back LenDale White said Thursday.

It was the mercurial White, never shy about expressing an opinion, who stood up and answered Carroll's question in the 2004 closed-door team meeting.

What did White think of UCLA?

"They're garbage!" he pronounced.

Said junior nose tackle Sedrick Ellis: "That was LenDale. ? He felt he could whup anybody's [rear end]."

White, apparently, was not alone.

Running back Reggie Bush echoed some of White's sentiments, but noted that something was amiss with the Trojans.

"We just kind of slacked off a little bit," former safety Darnell Bing recalled.

Williams, a reserve at the time, said the Trojans were emotionally drained from the previous week's victory over Notre Dame, a game in which quarterback Matt Leinart clinched the Heisman Trophy.

"Guys wanted to get to the next game, they wanted to get down [to Miami]. That was really it," he said.

Carroll would have none of it. He bit into his players about overlooking the Bruins.

"People have this misconception that Coach Carroll's just this fun-loving guy," said former offensive lineman John Drake, chuckling at the memory. "But he was all business. He said, 'Don't fool yourself thinking the battle is already done and you haven't even played the game!'

"It was kind of shocking. Like, 'Where did that come from?' "

The next day, when the game began, Carroll's worst fears proved true.

USC jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but UCLA returned a punt for a touchdown. The Bruins were within 17-10 when officials made a controversial call, whistling a play dead and ruling that Bush did not fumble after a three-yard reception.

The Bruins eventually cut the deficit to 23-17.

"It was one of those games where the whole game you're thinking, 'We're killing them,' " former linebacker Collin Ashton recalled. "And then you look up at the scoreboard and say, 'What the ? hell?' "

USC eventually won with the help of a career-best five field goals from Ryan Killeen.

"With Reggie, Matt and LenDale, I didn't think I would be kicking that much," Killeen recalled. "But I kept hearing, 'Field goal! Field goal! Field goal!' "

USC secured the win when cornerback Kevin Arbet recovered a fumble by Jason Leach, who had intercepted a pass with less than a minute left.

"We were one of the top teams ever and it didn't really matter to UCLA," Drake said.

Carroll has said throughout this week that his team appeared sharp and on task. He does not foresee the need for another meeting like the one in 2004.

"I don't think we're going to have any problem at all," he said. "They've been so compliant in following everything to the letter that I would be really surprised.

"This is not a group that has a big opinion about what's going on or where we are. They just kind of do whatever we tell them to."

Skipper is right you just can't let it go.
Why is it that you don't aknowledge that the refs missed Drew Kelson's interception. That was a HUGE missed call that went in favor of SC.

You can stay in your woulda coulda shoulda world with mythical halftime bets and boring diatribes of speculation.
The rest of us will stay in the real world where the Texas Longhorns are the 2005 National Champs, no arguments no questions.

The NCAA PUBLICLY said the refs made 2 huge errors that went in favor of Texas. NCAA never mentioned any call that should have went Texas way. Quite frankly, you don't have much of an argument. I have factual data supporting mine.

Facts are facts. Doesn't change the fact that Texas won the game and won the National Championship. However, there was a bunch of reasons why Texas won. I mentioned a few.

I enjoy your point of view on USC.
I agree totally with you on why USC lost vs UT
However, the 06 RoseBowl has nothing to do with
USC Vs UCLA.

BTW the line has dropped to 12.5

last week i hit my biggest bet of the year on usc because i thought that the nd defense was too slow for the usc offense. for this game i jumped on ucla +14 (130) because they are home, they were humiliated last year, & am impressed with their defense.....but i hope usc wins because usc vs. ohio st. should be an excellent game.

good luck.
