Been going to Vegas for 30 years. Never seen it like this. I'm getting 3-4 room comp offers plus other goodies every week - even from places I have only walked in to for an hour and played.

If you think Vegas is hurting all you have to do is check out what the casino stocks have done the last year. It is scary.

Income down 69 percent at Nevada Casinos

1/16/2009

The net income generated by Nevada casinos in the fiscal year that ended June 30 declined 69 percent compared to the prior year, according to the Gaming Abstract Report that was released today by the Gaming Control Board.

Frank Streshley, the agency?s chief research analyst, said the total net income of $721.2 million generated by 266 casinos was the lowest total since fiscal 2002, when casinos lost $33.5 million.

The abstract figures take into account the total revenues spent by casino patrons on gaming, rooms, food and beverage and other amenities. The net income is the profits retained after expenses have been paid, but prior to deducting federal income taxes or other accounting expenses.

In simple terms, the expense of doing business has gone up,? Streshley said.

Fiscal year that ended June 30, 2008 is finally being reported January 16, 2009?

I was looking at some long weekends in Vegas (Thursday-Monday) and Super Bowl weekend is actually slightly cheaper than the following weekend. The rate differences from weekend to weekend are kinda bizzare.

agree totally Jack--wife and i valet every where we go--- why would a person NOT use valet

Actually, a couple of reasons - sometimes (half the time) I wouldn't use the Valet due to:

1. Wanting to get a little exercise, as usually the walk from the parking garage is lengthy and

2. Some of the Casino's valet line can get rather long at times - especially when big events are going on - so that can lead to rather long wait times...

Valet's are nice, and I usually use them, but if the weather is nice, I don't mind walking off a buffet or 2......

I like to use Valet, however when I am in Vegas I've only once had a car with me. I was in Vegas in November and the place was absolutely dead. They were practically begging for business. The economy is terrible out there one of the cabbies told me. Lots of people getting their shifts cut and some people losing their jobs at the casino.
