For as many times as I've been there, I never really heard about the "$20 trick". (Keep it clean, you freaks!)

When checking in at the hotel, you place a twenty on the counter with your credit card, and ask if they have any "free room upgrades" available.

Does this work with any success?

No it doesnt. Simply asking politely for an upgrade will do the trick if they have any to give, the times I have seen people try it it ends up looking like something they read on a message board and it comes off as totally cheesy. I have asked and been upgraded and I have asked and been declined. But personally I dont think it makes a difference one way or the other.

No......it is not really free. Then again.......I couldn't see myself going up to the reservationist and saying, "Hi. If I give you this twenty bucks, will you fuk the hotel out of a nicer room than I am paying for?"

If I have a $69 per night room reserved, and get a $200 per night mini-suite, for $20 to the skirt pushing in codes on the computer, it is about as good as "free"!

definitely ask. some do and some don't but you will never know if you don't ask.

you don't get anything if you don't ask.

Jack could not be more correct. This is the NUMBER ONE advice I give to people going to Vegas. I get there 3-4 times a year so people are always asking me about comps, food etc, this is the thing I always tell them. Pit bosses cannot give you free stuff if you dont ask. You cannot get upgraded if you dont ask. If you are afraid to hear "No", you wont do well getting free stuff.

Great advice Jack.

Eric-
now that i got a good laugh kept thinking of vegas vacation with the show they went to when he gave the guy a buck in change.

Keep the 20 it will turn it into a big fat no. check in play for a day go back that eve. with play and ask your host or pit boss for the upgrade or at least casino price which will be cheaper then you are paying. if you don't ask you don't get and if they don't give i go to another hotel that will and you check out first call around tell them you are upset with where you are staying say i am playing so much a hand and time that you played and we they like to have your family for a casino rate ,then you check out call down and you tell them you wanted a casino rate at least and so and so has offered it to you they will do 1 of 3 things and you act on that 1 they will upgrade you so to have a shot a your money 2 they will give you casino rate for your room still trying to get your money and 3 they will say in a nice way don't let the door hit you in the ass your 5$ play does not mean shit to use and i would make a point if 3 happens to write a letter to ceo tell everyone i can because money is money and a 5$ player is what built this town and some suits for get that. the whale can clean a casino on a hot streak yes he gets the planes and suites you will never see but they are scaired of him. the 5-25$ player has a chance to break even win a few grand but more then not lose between 750 and 1500 on a 3 night stay. so they damn sure will be glad to have a shot at you at other places then worrying about a whale taking them for 10 million + at 1 sitting. yes they fight to get these people but they swet their ass off when he or her is their and will do everything in the world for them not because they know he has money but because they want to make him relaxed and drop his guard which also leads to dropping some cash they decieve and distract big players some will snap and say get the f out of here but most love the treatment and are then softer as they play and not as sharp thinking as they should be.

I will be satisfied with the room I'm in............just wondering if the rumors were true. Thanks for the clarification guys.

I don't play for comps, as the free things in the casino are too expensive.;)
