I am so confused by this line

Wake is 8-1
Florida St. 5-4

Sure Fla St. had a nice victory over Virgina but Wake played very well vs BC last week as well.

This line just really confused me, I figured State would be favored by a field goal or so, can someone help me out on this one. 8 1/2 seems like too many points to be giving Wake.

would you guys consider this a decent play...? If that lines makes me think like that originally it almost tells me a nice play on Florida St. is the way to go.

Florida St -8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - We've made a mint this season picking against Florida State. It's not that we had any particular grudge or vendetta against the Seminoles, we just felt they were overrated. WAY overrated.

And, you know what? The Seminoles proved us right. We forecasted three of their four upset losses (Clemson, N.C. State and Maryland), and the only reason we didn't nail the fourth is because we made other plays that week. In fact, we're 3-1 at picking FSU games this season, and we're expecting to run that mark to 4-1 this weekend. But not in the way you might've predicted.

Again, we don't harbor a bias against any specific team. We just call 'em as we see 'em, and that's why we're turning the tables and advising our loyal readers to give Wake Forest the points because it is going to need them.

True, the No.18 Demon Deacons (8-1 overall, 4-1 in league play) are tied with Maryland for first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Atlantic Division. But they're also living a charmed life. Four of their wins, including their last three, have come by seven points or less.

Wake Forest has also been fortunate enough to play its toughest teams at home (until now, of course). Home field didn't seem to matter much on Oct. 7, when currently unranked Clemson came calling and left town with a 27-17 victory.

Now, the Demon Deacons must take their act on the road to Tallahassee, where they haven't won in nearly half a century. In fact, one could count all of Wake Forest's wins versus FSU with one's nostrils - the Demon Deacons beat them away in 1959 and at home in 1973. That's it, and that means they've never prevailed against the Seminoles in ACC action (Wake Forest didn't join the league until 1992).

tpaine, i was about to start a thread with the exact same topic, but i figured somebody beat me to it. that line is extremely suspicious. i agree 100% with sun tzu. HOWEVER... over the last year or two, as FSU has fallen from the elite, this has happened at least twice that i remember. seems FSU is favored by way more than they should be. so i'll bet on FSU, thinking i'm a smart guy. i've lost each time.
nothing makes any sense here. wake is playing better than FSU. the 'dog is 8-0 ATS in wake games (6-3 in FSU games) this year. everything screams to take wake. looks like 70% are on wake. yet... the line is up to 8.5. :scared
the ONLY thing that makes the slightest bit of sense... since this is the prime time ABC game tonight, maybe there will be a lot of action from guys who don't follow the sport very closely. they'll see FSU at home, 'only' laying 8 to wake, and jump all over FSU. even with that, i think i'm grasping at straws.
all that being said, it really seems like you gotta figure vegas wouldn't screw this line up this badly, and take FSU.

This is a tough one indeed. Wake has way better football. period.
A few things that scare me from taking Wake. FSU has better talent (athletes) and more depth.
Its also at FSU.

Wake's defense is very, very sound and both coaches don't mind playing field position games early on.

Biggest thing that scares me is that Wake will play great on defense, do everything right, and in the end, FSU will just throw it up to Carr and Fagg (6'6 and 6'3) and they'll go get it against Wake's smaller DB's.

I'm really looking forward to the game. I love Wake.

My heart says take Wake. My mind says no play.
So, I'll prob. take Wake.
