Florida St -8
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - We've made a mint this season picking against Florida State. It's not that we had any particular grudge or vendetta against the Seminoles, we just felt they were overrated. WAY overrated.
And, you know what? The Seminoles proved us right. We forecasted three of their four upset losses (Clemson, N.C. State and Maryland), and the only reason we didn't nail the fourth is because we made other plays that week. In fact, we're 3-1 at picking FSU games this season, and we're expecting to run that mark to 4-1 this weekend. But not in the way you might've predicted.
Again, we don't harbor a bias against any specific team. We just call 'em as we see 'em, and that's why we're turning the tables and advising our loyal readers to give Wake Forest the points because it is going to need them.
True, the No.18 Demon Deacons (8-1 overall, 4-1 in league play) are tied with Maryland for first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Atlantic Division. But they're also living a charmed life. Four of their wins, including their last three, have come by seven points or less.
Wake Forest has also been fortunate enough to play its toughest teams at home (until now, of course). Home field didn't seem to matter much on Oct. 7, when currently unranked Clemson came calling and left town with a 27-17 victory.
Now, the Demon Deacons must take their act on the road to Tallahassee, where they haven't won in nearly half a century. In fact, one could count all of Wake Forest's wins versus FSU with one's nostrils - the Demon Deacons beat them away in 1959 and at home in 1973. That's it, and that means they've never prevailed against the Seminoles in ACC action (Wake Forest didn't join the league until 1992).
