Morally, yes. It's something he can live with for the rest of his life. I hope everyday he looks in the mirror he has more than a moment.

Well let me enlighten you on something then brother. After training and on my very first mission as a scout sniper in the Marine Corps, my first live round shot from my Barret .50 went into the diaper of a live infant being held by a live woman, which detonated the C4 that the child's father had stuffed into his infant's diaper. All five family members were eliminated from the blast. Who is responsible for their deaths? Is it me? Not by a long shot. Well it was a long shot and a hell of a shot as well but that is neither here nor there. What about the woman that shot my spotter in the back, she has a really nice new lead hat and my spotter still suffers from the pain of those injuries?
War is hell and so is mankind. Higher moral ground only makes for a better target brother, that is all it is good for.

Hope that helps,
FDC

Lots of people had a hand in their deaths. Among those would be the leaders who took you to war, your recruiter, and you.

The father caused his death, do you not see that? That kids fate was sealed the minute the Father put C4 in his diaper. What infant survives an explosion of that magnitude?

Also, this was not during any wartime that the U.S was involved in. This was a simple operation that had a suicide bomber kill his family by having no regard for them in the first place. I honestly think that the rest of the family was simply ignorant of the situation but.............when you hang with suicide bombers,........well you gotta break a few eggs.

It's not directed at college athletes. It's directed at the school and it's leadership. Did you defend USC and it's players when Bush took money? Those kids that were in high school at the time and then signed to play there had nothing to do with it and really neither did the school. How about SMU? Those freshman had nothing to do with the players that were paid but they had to look for another school to play for. Kids going to a school pay a price for other peoples mistakes every year. And those mistakes are usually things like getting tatoos or taking a little money. So you don't mind kids paying the price for others doing those things but they shouldn't have to pay if their school turns their head to someone RUINING a childs life.

I have never been in favor of punishing someone for something SOMEONE ELSE did wrong. I get it that that is the state of affairs in NCAA sports, but it doesn't make it right and it's something I will never agree with.

I hear you and I've never been either but in this situation the school needs to be punished because they let this go.

Much like it wouldn't be fair for a child to go without their father because their father did something wrong and is now in prison. It's not the kids fault but they're going to have to pay the price. These kids can go to other schools so it's not like it's a total loss. It's something every kid knows can happen when they choose a school.

You can't not punish someone or something for their actions because you're worried that someone innocent will be affected.

The New Orleans Saints lost their head coach because of the scandal surrounding player bounties.

Why is the entire team not suspended from playing for one year?

Ray Lewis was implicated in the murder of 2 people - and was named the Superbowl MVP a year later.

Let's keep talking about ethics and outrage.

Because I have the courage in myself to stand up and state my opinion on the Penn State topic, and it doesn't agree with yours - doesn't mean you are somehow better than me.

Marine...........nobody is saying PSU should be shut down.

Which is exactly the problem. You've got Paterno, the head of the football program painted guilty of a cover up - and people want the football program shut down because he was the head of it.

And yet right there next to him, you've got the Pres and VP of Penn State as a whole involved in the same thing. But, but, but... but where is that same amount of flesh being demanded for the same crime?

Really the fact that you could compare this to young boys being raped in the shower amazes me. I'm not saying some of the things said to and about you have been right but you saying this sums up a lot.

You're missing the point. Entirely.
No one is arguing that boys were raped. I never have.
I've always been, and will continue to do so, saying that the "demands for justice" by these people are outlandish and ridiculous.

But, Paterno is the head of the football team, he should know everything going on around him. He should be punished because of what happened on his watch because he was the head when it happened.

But yet, that seems to only apply to him and his football team. No other person implicated in this has been taken to task like this.

Marine will you please provide a link to all of the teachers who molested boys who went unpunished because administration knew it and did nothing...do you get the POINT?

FatDaddy...I'm not going to provide you the link to the INDEPENDENT report because you can look it up yourself.

It is a fact, in the report, that janitors witnessed Sandusky with a little boy but, were too afraid to report it because they thought they would lose their jobs.

For those, thankfully few, who need it spelled out...They Would Have Been Fired based on how leadership handled every other situation involving the football program. That is the institutional culture at PS.

There appears to be little difference between PS fans and alumni justifying their own perspective as when southerners justified their attitudes on race.

Sure you can dream up reasons why your viewpoint makes sense to you and try to minimize the injustice and horror but, the entire rest of the world has a clear view of the level of inhumanity that took place in the shower, in the head coaches office and in the administrative suite at PS.

Jack and I agree on pretty much nothing, but he is spot on when he talks about Marine "twisting things".

No pretty much everyone involved has been taken to task. He's on the forefront because he is Penn State. He in fact had enough control to stop this and he didn't. As did the AD and the pres. They're all sick losers.

Am I comparing the incidents to each other? Am I comparing player bounties to child rape? No.

Am I comparing the punishment doled out to coaches accused of fostering a culture of corruption and it's impact down the line?
yes.

The saints leadership actively fostered a culture and mindset of inflicting injury to people and rewarded them for it.

Did paterno bring his players in the loop on this and actively pursuade them to participate? No.
This is what paterno meant when he said it wasn't a football issue. This didn't trickle down to the players and affect the way they operated in their actions. But, when people hear rape and scandal, they loose the ability to see anything else other than the ability to shout wildly for punishment.

But, dammit, we need to punish those players for being associated with the program.
