As far a points go I do like the over in this one - but the buck stops there. The Heels are finally back to the powerhouse they once were now under williams (a UNC alum, who wants to take down coach K at Cameron...and knows he can). NC is so deep and their starters are so good, along with bigger than Duke. I love the Dukies at home usually, but I love NC on the raod A LOT more!!! I think has slaughter potential to be honest with you, UNC will get confident, but not complacent as the game goes on and Duke will lose faith in their abilities as Mays locks up the post and McCants does what he does, they'll get aggrivated when they're down boecause they're never supposed to be and CANT do anything about it, especially against UNC. It might be tough to swallow, but I love the heels tonight and think this game solidifies their program as the best this year amongst everyone in the NCAA...maybe even the charlotte bobcats

gator:

if duke loses by more than 10 points, i wont post on the forum until conference tournament time. and i mean that. not because im arrogant and think duke cant lose. because if they do lose by 10+, that will mean my capping is flawed anyway and of little use. carolina MAY win the game. but there is no way in hell duke loses at home by 10+(or 'blowout style')

p.s. no matter how many guys carolina has that will play in the league, the bobcats would still win by double-digits easily.

btw- none of the above is meant to discredit your opinion. i can certainly see why people will play carolina. theyre friggin good. but duke at home as a dog under coach K is obligatory. would really like to know if my memory was correct. last time duke was a home dog, it was actually against a #1 carolina team and duke won. not sure though.

regardless, best of luck!

I am impartial to either side, though I live in Durham and will be courtside. I think Duke wins this game. Shav is looking stronger and contributing more on the glass. Mel is hitting some threes. They have equal depth.. both going about 7-8 deep. Duke will get the calls at home and slow UNC down enough. Factor in the "crazies" and..... Duke figures out how to win a close game. That's the way I see it. As Bill Blastoff say's though.. it's still about putting a ball through a hoop.

No offense taken. That's why I love this board, we bring together different approaches, perspectives, and ideologies that add up extremly valuable information. I understand my view is against one of the (mine included) cardinal rules of NCAABB capping: don't bet against DUKE at Cameron! But, another rule of mine is that a lot of these "rules," "models," or "trends" tend to go out the window during rivalry time - ITS ALL ABOUT WHO CAN STEP UP. Like yourself I don't completly capp on numbers and actually try to compare styles, streaks, matchups, heart, hatred...anything influential, but from what I've seen the last few weeks of conference play my heart won't let me play Duke and my wallet/brain wants me to play UNC really bad...of course Vegas couldn't put this any higher than they did and the only reason the line is moving down is to balance betting and hedge their bets due to dukie love. I respect everyone's opinion on this game, but the teels are just ****ing nasty!!!.

why is carolina favored? pretty easy. every talking head on espn, fox, and cbs makes it known that carolina is the best team in the country

I have to think UNC is favored @ Duke because oddsmakers felt they needed some Duke Action. IMO the entire world would have played UNC +1 or 2, as I thought the posted line would be.

Regardless, keep up the good work and GL on your plays tonight.

for the record: yes, the bobcats would embarass the heels AND no, I don't UNC think will finish double-digits up on Duke, but I do think we'll see a margin of that at least once tonight.

Good luck Gman! We are butting heads on this Akron game - I think the Zips pull this one out (somewhat convincingly) Still undecided about Duke/NC - probably see how the Akron game goes.

Good Luck Tonight!!

yes, im very serious. and i dont say it to mean 'unload on duke'. i just cannot fathom duke losing at home by DD to anyone. if they do, then like i said -- my capping is flawed and i will catch you all at conference tournament. a self-imposed ban if you will, lol.

also, just for a public service.

murphy's law will have it so that toledo will bury bg in the rematch after pissing the game away to screw the outright portion of my mac game of year a few weeks ago (blew 17 pt 2h lead). since im not playing the game, it would only be fitting for toledo to jump out to a good sized lead......... and then continue to build on it all game, just to piss me off.

Good God gman, I will personally fly out to Ohio and hunt you down if you stop posting lol :director:

On a more serious note, I doubt UNC will be blowing Duke out, but now I have a sort of 'bet' on the game with your board intelligence on the line here lol

gman, I'm one of the many who respect your capping. Your write-ups are a must-read, win or lose. But if you remember, Duke lost to Maryland AT HOME by 9 points (!) just a few weeks ago. That's just one friggin 'point from having lost by DD. I'm just saying that it's within the realm of possibility.

if duke can lose to md by 9 i am afraid they might lose by 10 or more if unc plays a great game. dockery has to contain felton but if ewing has to play alot of minutes chasing felton he might not get his normal average. ewing doesn't seem to be able to run the offense and get his points. shav best not play too close to marvin williams or he will get burnt.

" I got 4 letters for ya. LGBU" LOL

Do you remember the Lone Stars at Akron? My buddy from HS was president of the Lone Stars (before he was arrested, of course) Not too far removed from Animal House to be sure.

Actually I harbor almost no ill feelings for Kent at all, lovely campus and great town in general. I cant tell you how many times in my youth that I staggered down Water street stinking drunk searching for my ride. I was recruited by Kent as a tennis player many, many moon ago and the bastards pulled my offer when some hotshot from California came into the fold late. I'll always hate them for that, but hell,While I was a damned good HS player( I played #1 singles all three years) I was probably a notch below D1 college standards. So I went to Akron instead, where I met my lovely bride of 24 years now. All's well that ends well!

( Sorry for the clutter G !)

Cris has hung a total of 140 on the CMU/ NIU tilt

Guard Kevin Nelson and forward Sefton Barrett have missed three games while being suspended for undisclosed violations of team rules. Coach Jay Smith has not decided whether they will play on Feb. 9 at Northern Illinois.

I called the CMU SIDs office and could not get a confirmation on whether he made the trip or not to NIU. The guy I talked to said it will be Jay Smiths decision. Somebody do some leg work please !

in response to the 9-point loss to maryland (a few have mentioned that)

im not trying to backtrack, but im talking about a legitimate 10+ point loss.

that maryland game was 2 point game with 1:00 to go (tied with 1:39)
free throws stretched that game to the 9 point margin. it wasnt a true 9pt win by maryland.

incidentally, thats where a lot of my capping comes from (reading into misleading finals where score isnt indicative of how well or how poorly a team played)

thats a 9 point game where duke led the entire way until very late and maryland hit a string of FTs to win by 9.

conversely, youve got texas yesterday who lost by 9 points but who was never really in the game, having to play from 18-20 down for a long stretch of the game. a couple of 3s at the end made it respectable.

but YES if carolina wins by legitimate double digits, im out until conference tourney time.
