Pick up my son from after school day care and get home. So we get out of the car and I go down to end of driveway to get the mail, and my son goes to the door and says "Hey daddy, why is the door to the house wide open?"

I'm like "Huh??"

Sure enough. Someone broke in by kicking in the basement access door and went all through the house.

Now here's the funny part.....all they took was my son's Game Cube system + games.....his Nintendo DS + games and my iPod. They didnt take any TVs, DVD players or DVDs or CDs or even the computer....even left the portable DVD player we take on long car rides....WTF??....didnt break anything.....left a small mess on the floor from rummaging through the drawers and cabinets and shit....but I guess they were just looking for shit they would sell quick and without suspicion.

Now comes the pain in the ass part of dealing with insurance and getting my door fixed and replaced.

Yes, I am very grateful nothing was damaged and no one was hurt. I keep having these images of my son walking into the house and there still being someone in there.

Sorry to here that also...sounds like kids tho. Just took Game Cube and Nintendo games. Ask around the neighborhood to see if anyone else got broken into especially houses with kids.

The cops were certain it was teenagers. They only took shit they could sell easy and didnt touch anything else. I would have thought they would break shit simply cuz they didnt score big.....found one of my golf clubs upstairs....I guess that was in case I came home early.

Not sure what to do yet. I called my insurance and gave them some info but didnt file a claim yet. I probably lost $500 in game systems and games. No idea what it will cost to replace the basement door, but I was going to replace it soon anyway and install an alarm system. Just waiting a tad too long to do it.

They gave me a claim number, but does that mean I have officially filed a claim?

Oh, and it looks like they also stole an unopened box of cereal while looking through my kitchen.....Cinammon Life. What the ****?? lol

SHIT! That means it's an incident. Your deductible is probably $500 so you won't get shit other than a higher rate. And, good luck shopping your Homeowners the next 5 years with a theft claim on your record. Fukcers never seem to understand bad things happen to good people. What carrier do you use?

The real damage will be done if you get the bad luck of having another claim in the next 3 years.

Good thing you didn't walk in on them. Could have been a serial killer.

Agent,

What kind of options do I have at this point with the insurance company?

If I read your previous post correctly, sounds like my rates will go up even if I didnt officially file a claim? and Im not even sure if what I did was officially considered a filing yet. I just called them to ask who I contact to get an emergency door repair guy out to my house so I didnt have to sit in a chair with a gun guarding the huge freaking hole at the basement entrance. From that they asked a bunch of questions and gave me a claim number.

Thanks for the help by the way.
