yep boss, I forgot about Randy (the ugly unit) Johnson, being a Reds fan I have to forget about the other two ....:mj07:
I am talking about the CREAM of the crop however, great pitchers that had awesome control and the durability to go the distance not these pitch count contolled modern day arms, Maddox and Glavine excellent pitchers but not in the grade I am speaking of. No disrespect just how I feel.
Side note, my uncle is 92,.... Dad's younger brother (Dad will me 95 in AUG),.... he pitched in the Minors just prior to WWII, then was a pitcher on the Army Air Corp All Star team during the war. Dad told me he could sit down on 2nd base in games prior to him pitching the minors and watch my uncle mow em down. (obviously not the majors) regardless, the war cost him any shot at making the majors. I visited him the week of 9/11/01, his first question was do you think your sons will be put in harms way? second was what do you think I could make now in the Majors if I was in my prime ? My answer: "MILLIONS "
These guys split wood to live in the 30's in east Tennessee, had a wood cook stove, heated with wood also. Splitting wood gave you shoulders of IRON. They were tough as nails, plowed ground with horses and that is part of the reason they are still with us, the youngest brother served in North Africa and Italy..... he is 90, they have a sister older than them she must be 95 or 96 now, I forget what part of the year her birthday is. Pardon my rambling
