I always tip 20% unless the service sucked.

I never eat breakfast unless a group of golf buddies drag me into a Steak and Shake or a Cracker Barrel. For breakfast waitstaff I tip 30 or 40% - I figure they are up early to serve me and deserve the extra percentages.

Was at a Red Lobster yesterday with a group of older people. 15% was added to our tab as there were more than 8 people.. The waiter got screwed because we would have left him more. I slipped him a little extra just because.

20% for acceptable service. A little more if it is great service. I will leave nothing if the service is unacceptable and do not feel a bit bad about it. I know people that say stiffing on a tip is awful and I say bullshit. I will not encourage bad service and the few times this has happened I made sure to explain why there would be no tip left.

You obviously have never waited tables to say that sometimes you give NOTHING!!!! You suck. There are mitigating circumstances to every situation but someone in the chain of getting your food to you deserved SOMETHING! Shame on you UGA, very surprising. You get a sense of the person that will actually stiff people.

I always give 20-25% depending on the restaurant, and admit my Waffle House ladies get more than that, as Joker stated above. If bill is $10 I always leave $15 total. The entertainment watching others eat is worth the extra cash!

To each his own, if you want to reward rude service then more power to you. Shame on me and you get a sense for me based on a couple of situations over the span of 10+ years that you have no understanding of:shrug: Wow that is pretty presumptuous of you, but since i have never waited tables I guess I dont understand why it is okay to be rude to customers and why it is shameful to not reward that type of service.

Just to be clear as I could have worded my original post a little better, this has only happened a couple of times in 10+ years. Server makes a rude comment to me or my family, roles their eyes and/or any other rude action and they get no tip. I tell them why and their manager why. If this makes me an asshole then well I guess Im an asshole. Slow service, messed up orders, or any other understandable issues are fine and get a 20% tip as long as they are trying to do their job correctly. I will not however give an EXTRA dime to anyone that has been disrespectful to me or my family.

I've not left a tip a couple times in the last 10 years or so. I remember one time the waitress was acting like she was drunk and just a mess. I wouldn't let anyone at the table leave a tip. Ironically this was the same night I bumped into Tonya Harding and her entourage of rednecks. So this might have been the usual service for that establishment. :142smilie

I'll tell you what. My GF and I frequent the same two places all of the time. Each place has one waitress who is a complete dipshit, and we always pray we don't get her.

How you can screw people orders up more often than not, is beyond me. (And we hear other patrons have to correct these dopes, too.

We feel bad for them, but we feel even worse tipping them the same as the gals who bend over backwards for us, because they know we tip well beyond what is the norm.

It took a while, but we finally stopped tipping as much. We have talked, and we are seriously considering just telling the hostess to make sure we never get either of these two again.

I cant recall the last time I received bad service. 20% minimum, and that is based on total, not subtotal.

on the same side..which is the "Right Side" of the issue.

I don't tip my men when they fvck up either..

Otherwise they would think there is reward for shitty work..

kinda like todays parents who buy their children "stuff" ..and then ask them to do better.

PLEASE...

yea lets reward failure and expect different results..

15% for good service.

20% for great service..

NOTHING..otherwise..

I didn't take ya to raise..
