Hey all,

new poster..long time watcher....know some of the guys on this board (told me about website). I just bought a new house (I have to admit a percentage is because of the Worm) , and wanted some tv advice. I already have a 27" flat panel lcd in the bedroom and a 50" lcd wega in the living room. I am looking for a 30-42'' lcd/plasma HDTV for our gameroom. Do any know of any incredible deals online currently???

Thanks for responding to the newbie..

The Upstate
Target.com has a 32 inch LCD Flat Panel (Olevia Syntax I believe) for $888.00 and you can get an online coupon for 10% off which covers the taxes/shipping making the total $880. Ordered mine last week, awaiting shipment anxiously.

Hey chooch,

Don't know of any deals (not in the market at the moment), but I would think you'll get some good prices right after Christmas. Personally I am not big on plasmas. People drool over them cause you can mount them on your wall (or so they say), but not many people do. And then you still have to figure out how to hide the wiring. It's really not all that easy if you don't have a professional installer and a hollow wall to run those wires through, in many cases. Of all the major technologies, I am of the belief plasmas deteriorate in quality the quickest.

Some people love LCD's, but personally I see a lot of "screen-door" effect on them and they bug my eyes. To each their own, some people don't see it...but once you do it can be pretty annoying. I am a huge believer in DLP's and would recommend you check out what Samsung and other DLP manufacturers have to offer and grab the best deal you can on something 50" or bigger.

If you're a really big LCD fan then I don't think anyone can touch Sony.

Do a search on "DLP" or "Samsung" here and you should find the very long thread from about a year ago with ratings on some of the more popular TV's.

Oh, and welcome to the board. :)

Thanks, I think I am going with the syntax. It is just for a gameroom (already have 2 other HDTVs). The review sounded good, and there is no reason I can see to spend ALOT more on a namebrand......how much better could they be?

We've had our LC37s for about 2 years now. We are driving it with an HDTV Samsung box. We looked at nearly every available plasma and LCD HDTV before settling on the Sharp which looked much better in the showroom than any of the plasma sets, even those that cost twice as much. However, after getting the set home and playing with it for a couple of months, while there is no doubt that the LC37 knocks the socks off of every HD TV that I have ever seen.
It does have exceptional brightness, clarity, contrast and color. The on-screen menu set-up user interface is obvious and works well. The set is well-made and easy to use.

PC Mag ranked this 37" LCD TV an "editor's choice." Their profesional reviewers liked the excellent image quality, the solid build, the styling, the generous number of inputs, and the ease of use. They also gave it 5 stars.

I've spent way too many hours staring at this screen at my local Best Buy, where it's selling for $1000 more than here on Amazon. The 37" size just looks so much BIGGER than my 30" LCD at home. When you watch sports on ESPN, you can see not only the sweat beads, but the reflections in the beads. The 37" size is best when you are 8-10 feet away from the screen. I highly recommend getting an HDI-capable DVD player, too, if you watch a lot of DVDs. (Recommended: Denon DVD-1910 for $250.) The Denon can significantly improve DVD image quality when you use the all-digital DVI connection between the the DVD player and the screen.

Sharp's Aquos line represents the best in LCD TV technology and the company's coming out with better panels as well as larger panels. These TVs were easy and quick to install. It helped of course that it is so light. The picture is absolutely beautiful on HD. Brightness, contrast, colors are all excellent. Has the best HD picture I've seen. I've had the unit for almost 2 years now, and I have absolutely no complaints.

The images on the Sony Grand Wega plasma are fantastic. Obviously you already know this since you have a Wega. They sit alongside the same wall here and I cannot tell you how many times a guest has come over and drooled over the clarity and definition of the Sharp, not the larger Sony.

Still, if youre buying the TV for the kids in the gameroom, you should go another direction.

I would look here at 6ave electronics (6ave.com) they have very competitive prices and 6 cent shipping on most TVs. Shipping can add up on Plasmas, most places charge $150-200 to ship. If you're going to get a plasma go with Panasonic (best for the $$) or Pinoneer (a little more $$$, better aesthetics)

I ended up buying the Panasonic TH42PX500
Panasonic TH-42PX500U 42" Plasma TV (16:9, 1024 x 768, 3000:1, HDTV - SKU: TH42PX500U)

I also just bought a 20" Norcent LCD to be used as my computer monitor ($400).

I researched the Plasmas alot and all conclusions led to Panny or Pinny as they're affectionately referred to in the crazy audiohead world.

I would determine TV type based on TV size.

37" or less go LCD
42-50" go Plasma
50"+ go Projection

I'll try and dig up the thread I started about this same topic from a few months back, but I hope this info helps.

Here is the older thread...beware of going into that listed a/v forum they expect you to know everything from the start there
