I started my working career in 1977 and made $1.10 an hour plus wait staff gave me part of their tips, but I was underage so that was the best I could do. I also used to clean up a hot dog joint for ten bucks a night. When I turned 16 I quit and went to work at McDades warehouse driving a forklift for $2.65 and hour which was minimum wage. A year later I turned 17 and went into the Marine Corps and made about $.55 and hour.

My first several jobs were farm jobs where I made better than minimum wage. Couldn't wait until I could be a part of a hay hauling crew because that was big money for hard work.

Then first non-farm job was the tip-earning minimum wage so in the $2s as I was a busboy and dishwasher at Riverside Downs (horsetrack).

Then first regular minimum wage job was working at a BP gas station when I was 16. I remember when it went from the high $3s to $4.25.

I'm with YYZ...first job after having a paper route from age 9 was for 2.90 an hour. Took a pay cut but at least I didn't have to work 7 days a week anymore.

I had a paper route of 175-200 papers a day, Monday through Saturday, when I was 11 for $3 a week. :scared
