border collie by far the best-they actually are so good with kids its unbelievable--you need room for them to run though

I am a big dog lover and dont get me wrong Golden Retievers are great always friendly but in my opinion get too lazy as they get older. Also German sheppards you have to worry about the hip disease they always seem to get. I have a siberian husky who just turned 7 and has just as much enregy as he did when he was a puppy. The only problem I can say with him is you cant mind dog hair. I vaccum at least once a week and if he rubs up against you and your wearing black better have a roller to rake it off. He has gotten along great with all other dogs he has been around and I plan on actually getting a boxer soon because I broke up with my girlfriend and she had adog and I think he misses having someone to play with.

Mastercapper,
I have a 3 yr old boxer who is awesome. We adopted him thru boxer rescue 4 months ago.Today we adopted another boxer and he is in a crate howling and barking as i write this.He is a white boxer and deaf.Only 13 months old.
We introduced the the 2 dogs this afternoon. The 3 yr old is a female and the white one a boy.
We knew the 3 yr old would accept him but we have a major problem. The new one is trying to hump and mount the female.
The puppy just got snipped yest but he's horney as hell.My 3 yr old seems to like it.
My kids seem to like watching it.My wife tomr will consult with her boxer rescue people on how to deal with this.
We haven't named the white one yet.My daughter likes "honkey or Cracker"" since he's white.
But after watching this crazy dog try to "mount" the other my 17 yr old son came up with the name "Kobe".I thought it was pretty funny. But I hate the Lakers....
Had boxers all my life. There life expectancy is not high.My last one died 9 months ago of a heart problem. He was only 6.Another one we had for yrs had brain sizures.
Growing up I had one that lived till he was 13.
They are the best dogs...Farting is there biggest problem.Great with kids.farting and kissing are 2 things they love to do.
We have to name this new one by tomr.
I was trying to think of famos deaf people, famos boxers, etc
My names get knocked down by my wife and 4 kids..
Balboa[Rocky]Bambino,Chewbacca and Blutto[Animal house] are my favorites.
Will keep you posted...

A ton of good ideas here guys, some of these breeds I had never heard much about.

Shamrock: Sorry to here about your loss, completely agree with you that Boxer's are a great breed, they completely take over a household and are by your side constantly. I hope you get another Boxer so that you and your family can continue to have the joy and love that they bring.

Dawgball: I love Golden's and they are very intelligent but I dont know if I could handle al lthe shedding, but they are a awesome breed.

Chopstick: I like Grilled dogs.

Pirates Fan and Statman: I like Shepards for the protection they bring, but I am unsure how a Shepard would get along with a Boxer.

Sixfive: Weimeraner's and Labradoodles, I will have to check those two breeds out.

Mickstr68: I am considering a Mastiff, thanks for the tips on the different types.

Mjalam: I love blacklabs but I dont think I would have the time to give it enough exercise as the breed requires. Doberman's have always scared me ever since I watched the movie Boys from brazil.

Fletcher: Some of the best dogs I had as a kid were mutts and I have considered just getting another one from the Humane Society. I have my doubts about Akita's since I have read that they can be pretty possessive so I wonder if they would get along with my Boxer.

Bohica:Never heard of that breed but going to check it out today, sounds like they could tolerate the cold winters in Ohio and also get along with my dog.

Beantownjim: A small dog unfortunately would not last very long with a Boxer because of the playfullness of the boxer. You are correct on the health issues of many of the larger breeds, hip dysplaysia is a major concern.

Bleeddodgerblue: absolutely focking hilarious.

Davoso: Wow, what a neat breed just checked it out, but at 20 some pounds I would not want to risk getting it and having it get injured by the Boxer.

Boilermaker: How bad is the slobber problem with the Bulldog? My high school mascot was a Bulldog and it had a nasty drool. My Boxer allready slobbers terribly, but it sounds like the dog is full of animation.

Worm44:I love Border Collies, but the shedding might be too much for me.

Mush: I will haveto check that breed out, if you get a Boxer make sure if you go to a breeder that you get a look at both of the parents. I looked at over 4 litters before getting my dog since I wanted a big Boxer.

Box: You should be applauded for coming to the rescue of any dog, and it is amazing how many people I run into now that have Boxers and love them, I have yet to talk to anyone that has owned one that doesnt like them. The gas is terrible, if I run out of dog food and have to go to a conivence store to buy generic food my dog will have the nastiest gas. I was under the impression that White Boxers were considered to have genetic problems and were usually born death, thats what one breeder told me. I named my Boxer "Tyronne" because he looks just like Tyronne Hill the former Cavs basketball player. Only deaf people I can think of are Helen Keller and Pete Townsend.

we have 2 rhodesian ridgebacks (or african lion hound). they are used in texas and probably throughout the south for hunting hogs. the breed originated in africa to hunt lions. i read somewhere that a group of 3 can take down a 500lb. lion. they also are good about keeping coyotes away. we live on a 900+ acre ranch with a couple hundred cows. they love our cows (don't chase or harass them). don't know if they would be good for where you live, but they are amazing animals- very loveable and protective, yet predatory under the right circumstance. worth checking out.

MC , the drool is not that bad. However he is a very sloppy eater. Really gets into it.;) Has terrible gas  which can come in handy sometimes if you break wind just blame it on him.:D One of the downsides is life expectancy. 7-8 years. I get teary eyed sometimes thinking that Pete probably won't be around a whole lot longer.:( Good Luck in choosing your next best friend

Black Lab, what a great sweet dog. Greatest personality though they are diggers outside and shedders inside. If you don't have to worry about an irrigation system in your yard and don't mind them claiming some of your yard for their 'wallows' they are great.

I think Weimeraner's are a great breed. Check out the Labradoodle's as well. I currently have a Chesepeake Bay Retriever, and he's been a great dog, but Chessies have this nasty trait of guarding stuff (they were trained to guard their owner's take of ducks back in the Market days), and he can be a bit mean. Golden's are very nice as mentioned, but I like my dogs to be inside, and Golden's are too messy with that long hair.

I agree unless you want another boxer - both breeds are great!

But are fierce fighters.

95 lb boxer, big boy... great dogs I currently have 3 ;

1) fawn boxer around 80 lbs, ton of energy little overprotective, "joe pesci" of the group
2)fawn doberman, 118 lbs. yesterday, intimidating looking, bark shakes the house, keeps up w/the boxer and is the biggest frgn lap dog, going, lol!!
3) cane corse, similar situation as you, trying to find right breed to fit w/existing dogs, decided to go w/ 2 larger breeds, more assertive so it wouldn't be as easily dominated by the other 2, ended up being a great choice...ton of personality, plays well with the others , doesn't look to start trouble but keeps the boxer in line and get's along great w/ dobe... all great w/kids....the cane required some extra work because they tend to be a dominant breed, but once you show them the acceptable parameters, no problem....

All three short haired w/makes upkeep and house mcuh cleaner. I had an Akita, great dog but every time the "little bear" blew his coat (2x ayear) , he would leave enough fur for a smll blanket everytime he got off the floor, no matter how much you brished him out, lol!1 All my dogs are fixed as well...Some great suggestions good luck!!

Raz no shit , Milo and mango get brushed everyday and I still have to vac everyday just can't stand dirt anyway even without dogs would have to do it 3-4 times a week out here, but in the summer i get all 3 shaved and the love it, but milo can shed a rug as well as pull one up if he is board, that is whee the dog door comes in good when i am not around. Fletcher has that brissle brilo like hair that stays in at least, can brush him and he still looks the same:D

Hellah, lfmao!1 Fletch, they must love getting shaved w/the heat...Nikko was agreat dog, still think the Akita is one of the most beautiful dogs going, tight lipped, only bark when they when mean it and are some serious protection dogs combined w/unwavering loyalty...used to have to keep an extra eye on him when someone came into the yard, etc. he didn't know, he'd go right up to within a few feet and stair at em, if they showed fear or he picked up a vibe he didn't like ....his tail would tighten righ t up and he'd be ready to go...they def. do not like being left unattended idle time..lol!! problem for most of us as well, lol!! read a couple of good books on akitas, in regards to their history, original uses(fighting and hunting, where there fearlessness and quiet were highly regarded by the japanese) they were considered a national treasure, story of 1 dog whose owner died before coming home and his dog went to the station every day for 10 yrs. until his own death awaiting his owner...even the short hair is no picnic, but no way I /we could handle 2 or 3 long haired dogs, you must be lugging around the house w/vac in one hand keying the notebook w/the other, lol!!

hands down: LABS, we have a chocolate.....best dogs ever, ours likes exercise when shes outside but when inside just sleeps all day, not true about them being always hyper. Just like people it depends on the individual. Ours is mellow as can be when indoors and shes only 4.

six five, read yor remarks about chesapeake bay retrievers and it reminded me of one of my favorite dogs i've ever owned. as a duck hunting dog, they simply cannot be beaten. mine could retrieve a double after minimal training. and protective is an understatement. my friends quickly learned not to horse around with me if i had my dog with me, and woe to the person that entered my home uninvited or without being let in.

Boxer people....Had a major problem this afternoon.
My new adopted boxer who is 13 months old and deaf got into a huge fight in our living room.It was bad.
New boxer grabbed a rawhide bone that belonged to Sasha [my 3 yr old one]
Not sure who attacked who but both went after each other.Sasha had the new boxer down on the ground and my son and daughter couldn't seperate them.New boxer has a gash in her ear.No stiches need but almost.
New dog has been sexually attacking Sasha since we got him a few days ago.
Sasha is bigger and stronger and knocks him off her.Sasha growels and barks but Kobe or Pinball is deaf so he doesn't get it.

My wife is calling the boxer rescue people. It's probaly our fault too by putting the dogs together maybe to soon.My daughter is crying because she doesn't want to give up Pinball-Kobe-Nemo.
But maybe this isn't a good match.
Any suggestions...Sasha is a great dog with a great disposition.never, ever growls at anyone. All love...
