What's the point of making small bets?

besides just wanting action on a game, there is no point in putting a small wager on a game, unless you do small wagers 99% of the time.

time and time again I see guys post multiple plays, and more than half the time the top play hits and most or all of the smaller bets lose to give a break even or small winning/losing day.

In reality you at the absolute most, will get close to 60% in the long-term. So if you win a small bet, you "waste" a winner because you should have put more on it. and if you lose, you are taking away some change from your bigger winners like i said in the previous paragraph.

There is absolutely no benefit to placing small wagers from a profit point of view.

i think quite a few people wager for the sport of it....maybe they`re ex-jocks....aging wanna-be`s....people that just enjoy the action....

football in particular...i realized long ago that gambling was never gonna supplement my income,so i wager small because i enjoy it.....

i`ll wager a little bigger on other stuff because i`m a little better at it....but never out of "need".....that`s a recipe for disaster...most people work too hard for their money to throw it away on a lousy call or a bad bounce....

just one man`s opinion...

Its called entertainment. No more than 5% of all betters win money in the long run. It took me several years to find this out but it is the truth. So for me gambling is pure entertainment. Nothing more. Sure I would like to win some money, but like most in the long run your account will run dry at some point.

I disagree but only because my lifestyle has seen dramatic changes in the last 6 months.

I used to not think much about throwing down a grand on a game. Now I have a wife, and that money can go to countless other needs whether savings, home comforts, or retirement.

I have just as much fun putting $25, $50, $150 on games.

When it comes to college hoops though, I take pride in capping abilities and have profited rather well the last 4 years.

Everything else is for fun...

new shoes, purses....

kurby

Do you know how much it costs for hair these days?

I should have been a freakin' stylist... bastids have the ladies bring in champagne, they discuss sex lives, tabloids, and God knows what else and charge $175...

I swear I can't tell much of a difference... except in attitude...

Come to think of it, the better sex is after she's got her hair done... maybe it is worth it... :142smilie

Tell me about it. I'm paying $200 every 2-3 months. I get my own cut at the hair cutting school for $6 because I'm a cheap bastard.

Along with the purses and shoes, all of those things drive me nuts and I hate it. Once they're spoiled and used to a certain "standard" it just gets harder dealing with the bullshit and whining too.

I'm not positive but I think everyone misunderstood what the OP was saying. He's not saying the size of how much you bet but why throw out bets on games that don't have as good of a chance of winning as your bigger plays. Bigger could be a $10 bet and smaller could be $5.(or 5k and 1k)

I have done exactly what he talked about in football and MMA. My small action plays where losing like crazy and taking away from my bigger plays that were winning consistently. So now I've cut out all of my smaller action plays so my winning percentage has gone up and the amount of money I've been winning has also gone up. I think big and small plays are relative.

example- big plays hit at 57% but your overall % is at 50% because your small plays lose. Why lower your % with bad plays. At least I think that's what he's saying.

Thanks for clarifying. I was writing a check when I read that so it was on my mind.

Using that perspective, Scot-ATL adheres to your line of thinking and the last three years have been solid.

Good point.

you`re probably right,layin`.......i`ve thrown away more than my share on shaky dogs in mma and boxing(i`m embarrassed to post most of em)....i like the action.....

but,i usually play very small until i see something i really like.....

what i won`t do is play big faves on a regular basis....i seldom wager on anything at -odds......dlh bit me on the ass as did stephan bonnar vs methuselah.....but,the few times i venture forth on a fave,i usually do o.k....

it`s just too damned hard digging out after a big favorite loss....

honestly,i don`t worry very much about withdrawing money...i`m more concerned with not having to deposit....i`ve avoided having to deposit for years.....i crapped out at oly,but i only started out with around $100(it`s been so long i forget)...

for me obviously,it`s the sport, not the cabbage.....i`d probably have a coronary if i wagered what some of the hard core degenerates(i`m a bush league degenerate) wagered on an event....too much stress....

....if i can withdraw $500 every leap year or so,that`s a bonus i blow on my "crew"....

On the course!
Well, my "best bets" have killed me in baseball this season. Very odd, but true.

As long as I feel I have the best of the bet......I'll make it.

exactly, I bet 25 bucks when I bet on a game and I bet 50 sometimes when I really like it or somewhere in between. I learned years ago its for entertainment only. I have to admit I bet year round, every sport. I have taken breaks when the well runs dry, then reload. I am up in the last few years though:142smilie

I like the action

Would depend on how many your making--in gold with tourney and rd by rd plays not unsusual to have 25+ plays a week.

Personally the more that qualify as a play the better I like it--believe if have have good system the more plays that qualify the greater chance you have of reacching your average performance %.

Also --generally play all plays the same amount.
Only way I know given 110 line that you can hit 60% and lose money is deviate on amount wagered.

..................................................................

Its exactly what I do.

Of course you still have to pick winners so there is no guarantee your big plays will win.

When I first started sports wagering I would play alot of games that I had no business wagering on. I had not seen the teams play, I had not really a good reason on one team or another.

Its took me 7 yrs to get to the understanding I have now.

It has been working out for me .
