We are really excited. Things are falling in place, and we are currently in the process of acquiring a really nice house in Virginia.
There were a lot of reasons for us choosing to move. Although living in Colorado is amazing and we have had a great few years out here, we miss being around family and our kids need to know their extended family. In addition, while living at 8500 feet surely has advantages, we could never let the kids out to play without supervision (because of bears and mountain lions), and both Chad and I grew up basically living outdoors, and we want the same experience for our kids.
There is another factor that caused us to want to move. We recently found out that I have thyroid cancer. It is the "best" kind of cancer, and I will have a surgery in June to remove my thyroid and some lymph nodes. However, it has really made us pause and think about the shortness of life and the things we take for granted. Our parents aren't getting any younger, and it is important for us to be close to them so our kids can learn important life lessons from their elders. It has also been a dream of ours to be more self-sustaining, and its time to do what we want to be doing.
We are really excited to pursue this lifestyle in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. I'm sure we will have many new adventures and failures, but overall I think it is going to be a great move for our family.
On a lighter note, I was cleaning out a closet this morning and found this, brings back some memories
