I guess I misjudged you Terryray. Turns out you're just another guy whose sense of common decency, tolerance and compassion are undermined by your core fears and prejudices... you know... a Republican. :142smilieNot much more predictably nauseous than liberals sanctimoniously driven to prove their tolerance by bashing conservatives and coddling fanatical believers.
as the Prophet commands (29:46) "Be considerate when you debate with the People of the Book" :mj07:
precious few "moderate" versions of this faith ever work against, or even speak out against, the outrages of "the actions a small group of terrorists hiding behind a religion". Probably because that "1.2 billion non-violent people" contain many hundreds of thousands soft jihadists. The "small bad element" isn't afraid at all of offending their "1.2 billion non-violent" brethren, just showing that "small group" might not be as small as you spineless apologists suppose.
You self-righteous liberals don't recognize this and are therefore head-in-sand (or up other smelly dark hole) just as much as them.
But please don't call those gentlemen who misused commercial airliners on 9/11 "terrorists". One of your "moderate" versions, the imam behind the building of this very mosque, cautioned that "terrorists" is too strong a label here....Cf. Matthew 13:43

The thought occurs to me in the occasional blurring if the point of this in this thread, that I suppose we should tear down a large amount of Catholic Churches in this country that are located anywhere near public places or especially near schools, because hundreds (if not more) priests have committed sex crimes against children. Or at least, no more should be built in the country, to protect children and the morals of one particular religion.
I think the specific that the mosque is located three blocks away is an important point in this, and one that is hidden by those who oppose it - or at least is not known to the majority that oppose it.
I think it's sad that the originator of this post used the "Hussein" card with no reference to an actual headline using that name. It's of course possible there was one on the fringe right wing zenophobe sites, but no evidence of one... just Wayne throwing it in there for sad effect. Not surprising, just sad.
I do think it important to follow the money on this, and understand the bad taste issue. But if we ran every project through the bad taste tester before approving it, I doubt a lot of projects would be okayed in this country. I also note the indignity shown by some here to are devout believers in city and states rights, and those of local areas to determine what is appropriate for that area - and the mayor of the town is quite supportive of it. Interesting, when these rights are so important to some of you, and apparently dismissed when you feel YOU have been so wronged...
Prayer at school sporting events is probably something best not done, considering the church and state situation. Maybe at a private school, I can see that. But not one particular prayer, that can in no way speak for all the students, faculty, staff, parents and attendees at an event. The two issues are nowhere near the same, although I know it helps your case to try to make them seem similar.
It IS what makes this country superior to many others, and gives us something to stand on when pretending to be a beacon for the world in our affairs of state. It sends an incredible message that renders much of the hate against our country laughable to anyone remotely objective. And the others? Nothing much you can do about them, anyway, is there? I think we've learned that, what, 11 years ago?
It's a tough situation, and one that evokes a lot of emotion. Unfortunately, much of that emotion is nothing more than simple bigotry and hatred, based on ignorance of the facts and what this country is supposed to be about. Much of it isn't, but much of it is.
What is it about the conservative mindset that makes Republicans so fearful of change, progress and people of different color, creed or lifestyle? :shrug:Assalamu alaikum!

I was listening to Don Imus this morning and Gary McCord mentioned that what previously stood at the site of the proposed mosque and communtiy center was... get this... a Burlington Coat Factory.
I'm opposed to the mosque now as well. When religion encroaches on consumerism, it's time to draw a line in the sand. And what's more American than buying factory overrun clothing at discount prices? Clothing made by Sri Lankan orphans paid in rice, all hopped up on tea to keep them awake and forced to listen to David Hasselhoff recordings in German. Sure it's brutal but the beauty of capitalism is there's always new third world labor markets to be exploited. Damn, it's good to be an American capitalist! :SIBActually, the Masjid al-Farah mosque in Tribeca sends their overflow salāt crowds to that old Burlington building right now.
We below -would like to thank our liberal brothers here for their continued support--we would be happy to come to town near you and excercise freedom of relgion. :0008
